Where do I get these?

My steering is ---- on my truck and I need a beefy setup that won't bend or wear out as easy as the bullshit stock setup. Where can I order the parts I need to make a heim steering setup like this:

I don't want a 7 kabillion dollar kit you asshat. :P I also don't want some cheap ---- that's going to break in half on my way out of town on the highway doing 90mph. :P

www.cognitomotorsports.com sells a kit for my truck, but it's $325. :-\

Re: Where do I get these?

you can get heim joints and the threaded bungs for them all over the place.

personally i always go to oregon motorsports/off-road tech because they're local and carry one of these highest quality heims in production.

off-roaders will complain alot that their heims always fail, so they buy the rebuildable heims, and complain that its a pain in the ass to deal with those too.

we've run Kris' (Oregon Motorsports owner) heims for years now on tons of stuff including the longarm suspension kits under both of my brother in law's jeeps and not one has shown signs of wearing out or failure. Everything still looks brand new.

Downside is they aren't terribly cheap.

I do believe they are made by FK Bearings. www.fkrodends.com

Re: Where do I get these?

make your own, check out the blue torch fab site and look around, they sell tubine and heims, just get some tubing and heims and get to work, itll be a couple hundred or close though. heims arent cheap. :-\

jesus christ.. what do you plan on doing? riding dunes? or rock crawling?

why dont you just run a lift kit, and stock setups werent meant to last forever.. just freshen em up, and see if you can get parts from the top of the line model
for example, on my 1994 sle jimmy 4x4, i upgraded it with parts from an SLT jimmy, and that thing runs awesome, i take it offroad.. through mud and snow..

but a beefy suspension like that will prolly run like ---- on the street...

what kind and year truck is it?

Dr.Boost 10-16-2005 06:22 PM

Re: Where do I get these?

Well considering the truck only has 20,000 miles on it and the entire steering system is fucked already I would say I need to beef it up a bit. The tie rods are so fuckign tiny on this truck. I have no idea what made them think it was a good idea to put such tiny tie rods on such a heavy ass truck. ::)

I'd like to have a bullet proof suspension so I don't have to worry about popping balljoints out of the control arms and snapping tie rods. I'd say a complete heim steering would get me in the right direction. Everytime I hit a dip my tires flew opposite directions and squeel because the steering is so sloppy. :-\

The truck is a 2003 GMC Sierra 1500HD.

Re: Where do I get these?

well itd help if you werent launching your stock HD off of dips, and thats your bump steer your not really gonna get away from it, just beef up the steering and get a uniball upper arm (we could make one pretty easy, uniball are about 100 a peice) and a spindle and a little stronger torsions and youd have a clean front end but they youd have to move to the rear to equal out to the front, some deavers and bilstein 5100's or 7100's should do the trick, oh and i forgot youd probably want to build a hoop for two 2" shock or one 2.5 or 2 2.5's with rezzies. itd be a decent mid travel setup.

Dr.Boost 10-16-2005 06:47 PM

Re: Where do I get these?

----, I can move one wheel quite a bit before the other one moves. The tie rods are worn out. Have you sen the tierods on this truck? I bet yours are bigger. My brothers Toyota has tierods at least twice the size of mine and his are stock.

boosty, you're on the right track.

solid bar heim steering rods are a pretty quick and easy job, just fart on the speculation in this post, and get to welding.

Nobody asked you. :P

The thing is I have the torsions cranked quite a bit to clear my tires so that would void my warranty pretty fast. I know that's why they wore out so fast, but it's only been about 1000 miles since the torsions have been cranked. :-\

solid bar heim steering can be done very nicely and be nowhere near a hackjob.

either way by the sounds of what the good doctor is saying, he seems to have nil concern with the warranty.

to a dealer, anything not installed by a certified mechanic, or any uncertified parts used.. they consider it a hackjob

btw Dr. Boost, why dont you give a rats ass about your warranty?

Re: Where do I get these?

Actually, they fucked me on my warranty. The truck has some sort of factory warranty(since it only has 20k miles), but I didn't pay for any warranty. Regardless, when they see the torsion bars cranked they aren't going to warranty ----. :-\

From what I can see it should cost me about $100 to build a complete heim setup from www.speedwaymotors.com which is better than $325 from www.cognitomotorsports.com :-\

You use these for traction bars, right? Have you ever had one break? I'd think if they can handle a 5000rpm launch with a 6 puck clutch they should be able to handle my steering system.....hopefully.

Re: Where do I get these?

Dr. Boost,

your best soulution, just call up your local dealer, and ask them about the Z85 option.. which is the heavy duty suspension, and ask about the Z71 Off-Road Suspension Package too,

gm prolly realized they fucked up.. cause guess what? the z85 option now comes standard on 2006 trucks...

ask for mad discounts.. show em the low mileage, and fucked up steering, and they wont turn you down...
if one dealer turns you down, drive 30 miles to the next dealer....
my cousin went to one dealer to get his mitsubishi mirage radio theft protection off... the dealer told him 130 dollars...
he drove to the next dealer.. and he did it for free!

plus, when you buy the z85 or z71 if u get em installed by gm, ull get a warranty on em! even if u dont have one on the car...

listen to me damn it!

Dude, I've read a couple of your posts and I really don't understand why you alwasy insist on doing things your way. What is your reasoning behind going to a dealer and getting dealer-installed parts? The whole point of this thread is to not pay out of the ass to fix something, yet you insist on it. You don't make any sense to me, and I honestly tried to understand where you were comming from, but I couldn't. He already talked about his warrenty, maybe you should pay attention?

hmm, i didnt insist.. i just deleted my posts and put em into one post...
you dont have to have a warranty for the dealer to fix it.. with deep discounts or even free...
and he's talking about paying 100 bucks to 325 bucks for suspension parts? what are you trying to do? drive it like you stole it?
suspension is a very important part of the car.. why the ---- go cheap?
where im coming from is that his truck is almost brand new with 20 thousand miles.. he shouldnt go cheap.. you go cheap when your car isnt worth ----..
his truck is easilly worth 20 thousand, why the ---- would you go cheap? there options.. made and tested for the car.. not some kind of make shift ----...

another thing you could do dr boost is change all your bushings..
stock bushings are rubber.. take a look at em.. if they are worn and cracked.. thats prolly your problem...
replace them with poly bushings. poly bushings are alot stiffer, and will last you alot longer...

first off, me saying "listen to me god damnit!" was a joke.. anyone but you would know that...as far as posting to my own thread saying someones needs to reply.. i didnt just say "someone reply" i added more info too. thinking maybe someone didnt understand my post.. and what about that? i only did it twice, once on my twin turbo help thread, and once on the shockwave flash thread where i asked the hmt staff to delete it, becuase i thought no one liked it... turns out people did like it.... what is it about me that annoys the ---- out of you? go check all my posts.. none of em bullshit, and i posted alot of porn, that may account for about half my posts.. and the other posts are from me asking questions about my project.. which btw... is at a stalemate now because im stuck on how to proceed....

what do u want me to do to make you happy?

Dr.Boost 10-17-2005 12:35 PM

Re: Where do I get these?

Settle down kids. :P

I don't want to replace with factory parts because I know they are just as easily worn out as the ---- I already have. I want somethign that will last and heim joints are going to outlast ANY factory tierods I could get from GM. :-\

My bushings are all fine. Sitting under the truck moving the tires I can clearly see the tierods are moving way more than they should be moving. With the steering wheel locked the front tires can move in opposite directions. :-\
