What type of metal is this?
 

I'm going to delete my FITV and want to delete this barb. Can anyone please tell me what type of metal it is, and what would be best to weld it with?
I have a 110 LE mig setup with Alum. Wire and Argon. I can get my hands on a metal/CO2 setup very easily.

My guess is steel with zinc(?) plating.
Just wondering what the best course of action would be!

i'd pull it out and tap the hole for an npt plug.

you need the big one. that is steel. i dont know if you will be able to weld that with a mig. its pretty thin. none of my manifolds have that small nipple coming off the big one. i plan to pull the big one out of my manifold and tap it for npt, then run an -an line for turbo cooling

brazing FTW, or just put a short piece of hose on it with a screw in it.

why not just join the 2 hoses that goes to the fitv together instead of risking a coolant leak?

Go to almost any auto parts store and get a vacuum block off fitting. Then just use a zip tie or hose clamp. I wouldn't even mess with trying to weld it. Maybe just grab a wrench and twist it out and run a bolt into the opening. I say just use the vacuum block off fitting and it won't be permament incase you ever want to go back or something doesn't work out.

Seems like some of you maybe misunderstood me. I should have been more clear.
I'm only looking to block off the 3/8" line, not the 3/4" line.

I have plenty of caps, but they willl eventually dry-rot. I'm looking for long-term reliability with this 'mod'.

Because I'm wire-tucked and going for the cleanest route possible.

That sounds good, but if I can just get away with welding this 1 barb, it will involve less work...

i would weld it with silicon bronze. it likes to be used on plated surfaces and it melts so much sooner so you plug stuff pretty easily without worrying about leaks
