welding truck evolution

this is my welding truck.

1995 Dodge Ram V10
Lincoln SA-350 CDN

When i brought her home.
notice the rack on the back is for holding the oxygen bottles horizontally.
notice the cable wraps.
notice the ring welded to the top of the drivers side cabinet.

http://members.shaw.ca/cua0/truck/modtruck.jpg
modified passenger side cabinet to house oxygen bottle standing vertically.
removed ring and other wind drag crap from the cabinets
added a rack for my pipe stands
built a fire extinguisher mount and mounted fire extinguisher.
built a pipe roller and made a spot for it to live on the work deck (the black round thing on the back deck)

http://members.shaw.ca/cua0/truck/IMG_2427.JPG
built cable rollers!
started painting the deck black.

http://members.shaw.ca/cua0/truck/IMG_2428.JPG
another shot of the rollers.
you can see that i ran out of paint haha

the drivers side cabinet. kind of a cluster ---- at the moment, i need to get a tool box in there and modify the shelving to accomodate stuff a bit better. but this works for now so it's going to stay this way for a bit.

i cut a bunch of crap off the walls and put the mounting pegs for my grinding discs and chopsaw discs.
if you look closely in the previous picture you can see where my chopsaw is temporarily housed in the bottom of the cabinet. i need to remedy that.

http://members.shaw.ca/cua0/truck/IMG_2431.JPG
unpainted and unfinished.
bottles with their redesigned mounting strap.
my rod oven (blue thing) mounted 1/8" above the floor so it doesn't get damaged and bounce around.
close up of the fire extinguisher mount.
you can see the wrap i made for my oxyacetylene hoses *100ft*
i still need to build a little bracket to hold the torch on the door in the center of the wrap so that it doesn't get damaged, and then paint the inside of the cabinet to get rid of all the grinding marks.
(this cabinet had a bunch of shelves just like the other side, i had a bitch of a time cutting them out and cleaning it up.)
you can also see more closely the raised roof.

another angle of the same cabinet.
the gray bar is a straight edge for torch cutting.

Re: welding truck evolution

not bad, first weld bead looks like to much wire or slow travel speed.
second weld bead pic look good. I've been welding/fabing for 17+years
sometiems i weld wrong, most of the time i get it right.
I dont claim to be the best but, I have build alot in those years,
from dumpsters to navel ships to powerplants.

Re: welding truck evolution

yeah you dont' get a good idea of the size and contortions you have to be in from those pics. it's easy to stick a camera in a hole and snap a pic, hard to get your head and arm and everything else contorted in there to make the weld. just something you gotta deal with is a weld thats not 100% perfect all the time. i've been a journeyman for 4 years, welding professionally for 7, i'm still learning a lot of stuff too. :)
