Welding Process for Manifolds?
As Me and My friend come closer to welding up his manifold and a few for some local freinds we been playing with heat, processes, filler diameter, # of Passes and we think we came up with what we like and are happy with,
But as alway a second opinion on this is alway aprreciated? SO if you kind people don't mind how do you do it? Amperage? Filler Dia? Tungsten Dia? # of Passes? Any without Filler? Do you bevel you elbow more then like the come? Thanks in Advance. |
Re: Wleding Process for Manifolds?
i use 95 amps
3.32 filler 18 cfm gas with a gas lense # 7 cup lately ive been doing 2 passes, a root pass and a filler pass 1/16 rod |
Re: Welding Process for Manifolds?
Thanks Hotrex
Ya we tried a Filler and then went over, but penetration was weak (only at 70amp though) Then we did a root pass then a filler/cap pass, better penetration, but We need to bump the amps up a bit. Just Trail and erroring for now! |
Re: Welding Process for Manifolds?
since you have no pedal, youll need to get used to varying hand speed in order to keep temps right and get some jdm coloration. maybe turn up the cfm on dat gas yo.

hotrex,
Did you mean to say that you use a 3/32 tungsten? |

Josh, We use - 1/16" tungsten lanthiated - 1/16 filler Rod - 75 - 100 amps, depends which one of us is welding and what area were doing and the size of the gap. - We bevel the elbows a tiny bit more then they come, usually a quick spin around on the bench grinder. - #5 or #7 cup depending on how tight the spot is. - Tungsten sticking out about 1/8" or less out of the cup. Hope that helps. |
Re: Welding Process for Manifolds?
Thanks guys.
I'm in the process of looking into the schematics to bypass the amperage dial and put it to an old pedal my freinds dad got. At least that way I have a method to Vary The heat. Anyways, I have had no problems so far getting the MaD TyTe JdM Colouring! Also, the local Community College is selling off all their old equipment and getting new stuff. My dads old friend is in charge of liquidating and restocking, So I may be coming across some 250-300amp TIGs for a Song and a Dance! |
