which welder

hi there, im going to need to do some welding for my hmt setup as my local welder is going to charge me ---- loads for even the smallest welds :3 im looking at buying a second hand welder that i could use to make a downpipe, charge piping, and weld an adapter plate to my std manifold. What type of welder should i get, mig/tig/arc, gas/gasless and what brands are good?
thanks :1

Re: which welder

You should get a MIG for your needs.Gas id preffered but gasless or fluxcore will work as well it is just makes for ugly welds that need to be cleaned up after with a grinder.I bought a 115volt MIG that is dual gas and fluxcore so I have the option to add gas later when I have the extra money.I bought a Campell Hausfield as it was the cheapest dual unit I could find and I paid $369 CDN with shipping and taxes. If you have 230 volt avialable in your garage get a 230 volt welder as they will put out higher aperage so you can weld thicker metal etc.I can do up to 1/4 Steel with my little 115volt welder.Best tool I ever bought as I built all my charge pipes, downpipe and a full exhaust system with 10 min prior experience welding.

this mig looks good, would it be suitable for welding downpipe/induction piping, and my adapter plate or would the metal be too thick????

don't buy from over seas.......

I bought one of these from the same seller and it works pretty good for charge piping and such, they sell the cheaper non gas ones as well which also work good if you're on a budget.
