Twincharged Civic Hatchback
24 Attachment(s)
I completed this build a while back but the owner finally came back in the states so we went to get some tuning done on it. heres some build pics and vids of the car.
ls block (bored/stroked, sleeved, 8.5:1 pistons, and h beam rods) gsr head (hog ported, lightened valvetrain, stock cams) mp60 supercharger from a jackson racing kit t3 60-1 with .82 hotside and anti surge shroud 38mm tial dumping and a 3 inch exhaust with single muffler aem ems with 880's garrett core intercooler in backdoor config with tial bov the supercharger is bypassed once the turbo builds near full boost in hopes to keep the top end lively and still keep the low end grunt to get the turbo to spool. coming out of 30-40 mph corners there is hardly any lag and 50 mph corners there is no lag what so ever. dynoed on 93 octane Attachment 14577 Attachment 14578 Attachment 14579 Attachment 14580 Attachment 14581 Attachment 14582 Attachment 14583 Attachment 14584 Attachment 14585 Attachment 14586 Attachment 14587 Attachment 14588 Attachment 14589 Attachment 14590 Attachment 14591 Attachment 14592 Attachment 14593 Attachment 14594 Attachment 14595 Attachment 14596 Attachment 14597 Attachment 14598 Attachment 14599 Attachment 14600 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bnrNzZuXOjg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVD8TLr-rHs converted from an auto x car to a nasa tt car/scca hillclimb car. the owner is planning on running one lap with it also. |
Re: Twincharged Civic Hatchback
So...what'd it dyno at nog?! I heard someone say 420 or something in the vid. I would assume this is Roger McDaniel's old SC setup, as the bypass looks exactly the same, and I know the new owner was overseas for a while. IIRC Roger's B16 made something like 370whp with a fairly big turbo and the SC.
I'm surprised you guys didn't go with a full-T4 setup, something like a divided .58ar, p- or q-trim. But then again its a roadrace car, and probably won't run wrinkle-walls. :1 If you can, please post the dyno graph...that would be tits. :) |

yep its his old setup, the bypass is completely different though....
Attachment 14562 yep thats the car. it make 441 whp and somewhere around 340 ft pounds on 93 at 25 psi. the owner of the dyno said that their numbers on that dyno read 35-45 lower than just about every other dyno. i can talk to the owner and see if i could get the dyno from it but like i said earlier its not reading completly accurate. i would love to get it on another dyno and get some 110 in it and accually try to make some power. this turbo can make alot more power if we want it too. as for the turbo choice, its really quite hard trying to pick a good one for this setup since its so off the wall and no one has done it so we took the cheapest route and would run it a while so we can get a feel for what the car would like to use for later on. |
Re: Twincharged Civic Hatchback
this thing eats up 2nd gear >:D
|
Re: Twincharged Civic Hatchback
very nice build, but that mani looks like it hangs the turbo too low.
got any pics of the oil return set-up. how did you bypass the supercharger? |
Re: Twincharged Civic Hatchback
yea the return is deffinetly borderline. debated a return pump but thought we would give this a try first. its downhill and very short and has about 2 inches of straight for it to go down first. seems to be working well.
cut a hole in the intake manifold after the supercharger with with a throttle plate that opens with a boost activated acuator. air takes path of less resistance, preso. |
Re: Twincharged Civic Hatchback
SOLID

Re: Twincharged Civic Hatchback
well played, sir

sweet setup man.

thanks guys. lots of fun to make, just wish it was mine >:D.... well almost i am rwd for life but this car still works well
|
Re: Twincharged Civic Hatchback
any chance of seeing some dyno sheets.
Wondering how wide the torque curve is on this setup. Planning on doing a similar setup on a d16z6. Already have SC14 supercharger (84cid/rev) on it running 16psig peak. Why are you using AEM ems is it have any features that makes this setup easier to manage. |
Re: Twincharged Civic Hatchback
it was his choice to run it. i think the boost gain functions make it a good match with trying to get it to smooth over the bypass kickover point but i dont really know any real reason. its a great computer with tons of features and the features work well.
i am still pestering him for the dyno graph. ill get it up here when he gets a chance. the tq was not all that impressive on it. on the dyno. we all deffiently were expecting aloot more low end grunt. we suspected supercharger issues as it wasnt building boost as fast as it used to. once we got it home from the dyno he took it out once more and snapped the belt going to it. so we suspect that maybe teh belt was slipping on the dyno. so its not a 100% on the dyno graph we dont think but i will get it anyways. |
Re: Twincharged Civic Hatchback
I hope to have my turbo on a fresh d16z6 with my SC14 soon.
I'm still working out my sc to turbo transition setup. The SC14 has a a/c style clutch so I'm think of using the s/c 2k to 6k rpms. Switch of the s/c when the total boost reach 20psig. By then my turbo will be at right where it needs to be hopefully 20psig at 4k or 5k rpms. Designing an intake with ITB and a plenum w/ 3.0 inlet to keep the supply air going. I'm trying to have this whole setup to even work well without any boost or low amounts when I do not use the s/c. I may have to incorparate a second row injectors that become active when the boost is over 20psig. Right now I'm running 12psig when ever I turn the s/c which I have wired to my a/c switch in my dash. I still maintain 30mpg+ everyday. If I want to get around traffic I just hit the a/c button and hold and steer around slow people. I used this s/c setup for autox once sofar but I had to keep it of about 3/4 of the time I was getting massive understeer. But in the straights I would accelerate faster than the EVO's, Vettes, and STI's which is awesome. But if I brake late after sprinting in the straight away then my car become a plow start plowing cones. >:D |
Re: Twincharged Civic Hatchback

but in a fwd car this is useless of haveing 20 psi and 500 hp at 2500 rpm.... it cant get any traction with out the supercharger |
cool
