thin hubcentric rings on a lathe day before event
Supposed to go ice racing tomorrow (any other HMT nogs go to w-a-g events up here in cheeseville?)
Anyway, due to the shitty weather here, I can't get the freaking car I use for ice racing out of the trailer, so I'm thinking of putting the ice racing tires on the 'teg and going to town fwd style to at least have some fun. Wheels mate up, lug pattern is the same, clear calipers, etc. *but* the hub on the teg is about 2.5mm smaller in diameter. So, are hub centric rings bullshit? Seems to be a lot of arguments both ways out there on the interwebs. I chucked up a piece of aluminum bar stock, but this would be a total PITA to make 4 rings since I can't test fit them and wouldn't be able to chuck a ~2mm thick ring back on the lathe- nor can I test fit anything while the bar stock is on the lathe (car or wheel). Any input? Smarter way to cut thin rings? I have Al stock in sufficient diameter, so I was thinking: - turn it down to ID of wheel - drill big hole with tailstock - boring bar it up to OD of hub - parting tool about 10mm off. It's never going to freaking work, is it? (I've got a lame ass 3 jaw chuck, so I'd never get the thing chucked up again truly centered.) |

Pic of tiny gap between hub and wheel. ---- me.

what the hell are you babbling about? most aftermarket rims don't even have hub holes close to being hubcentric. it's more for alloy wheels with flat washers vs conical lugs like steelies/cheap alloy rims

yep, don't worry about it.

Cool, thanks for the input. Cheap wheels pay off.

Good to go. Just took a ride and man that car floats around on the snowy roads. Probably would be better w/o the rear sway- oh well. Here's a pic of the wheel in place:
