Smiley welders dont draw ----. Throw an amp meter on it. Is it on a GFI breaker? I ran one on a 15 amp breaker and it was fine.

an exstention cord will make u draw more amps, if u are using a cord it has to be a thick thick cord or realy realy short

I can throw my 110v 15amp breakers if I want too on my 40amp riland clone, esiepcially plasma cutting. with the plasma you can throw them pretty easily at half way. you pretty much have to turn it up all the way welding. I've never thrown a 20 or 30amp 220v breaker downstairs tho...

well it keeps kicking a 30 amp breaker downstairs. I'm running a 16 ft exstension cord that we use to back feed our generator through the 220 when we need to via the drier outlet ( We disconect the main so we don't kill anyone :8 ) . I'm too tired to ---- w/ it right now.

Re: Smiley Power

Alright I was tired. This is how it's wired up.

So I'm going from the machine which has 4ft. of 10 gauge wire to my hubble plug. This is plugged into a 35ft 10-3 line ( 10 gauge) which plugs into the drier outlet. Then the misc. amount from the upstairs to dowstair breaker.

So should I try for a 50 amp breaker or go for a whole new extension cord?

I sorta think if you're throwing the 30amp breaker your welder has ---- the bed.

god damn brand new chinese welder dead already? lol could be.

When I get time this week i'm going to hook it straight up to a gas generator with a 50 amp breaker and see if it works. :y

Re: Smiley Power

So I hooked the welder up with a plug so it could run of a generator. So it has the 4ft of 10g wire that came with the welder, to the plug, which is plugged into the generator. It ran off of the generator no problem. The generator only has a 25 amp breaker.

So thinking it was the big ass extension cord I hooked the welder with the 4ft of 10g wire straight to a drier plug and dried that to see if it kicked it. Sure enough it kicked the 30 amp breaker.

So either the breaker is fucked. Or the wiring to the breaker box is too small.
