Silicone reducers on the cheap

Bill of Materials:
1. Silicone coolant hose, inner diameter the smaller of the sizes you want it. Usually 3 or 4 ply reinforced, $30 cdn / foot for 2.25”
2. KY jelly
3. Bottle of beer with same outside diameter as larger size you want coupler
4. Bottle of wine with same outside diameter as another large size you want

Night before:
1. Drink the bottle of beer
2. Serve the bottle of wine to your GF (make sure she drinks it all or step 3 wont be too successful)
3. Use the KY as you please

Day of:
1. Cut the silicone hose to the length you want your reducer, I use an exacto knife and a hose clamp to keep the cut straight
2. Put the silicone coupler onto the tapering end of the beer bottle
3. Take it off and put KY all over the beer bottle where the silicone started contacting it
4. Shove the bottle into the coupler so that the large diameter section of silicone is as large as you want it (this should be well practiced from the previous night)
5. Use a bar clamp or books or whatever to keep the coupler from coming off the bottle until the KY dries

I left the coupler on the bottle overnight, then put it in the oven at 450 for 30 minutes (on the bottle still), and now it holds the shape I want.

I made a 2.25 – 2.5 coupler and a 2.5 – 2.75 coupler, for a total cost of $15 (well I already had most of the BOM)

Not sure if the stress or heat will affect it at all, but looks good so far.

I wouldn't bother with it that much though. reducer couplers are not that expensive, compared to spending $30/ft and then the time it takes.

Cool trick none the less if you had a coupler laying around and needed a reducer.

Silicone hose costs a lot less than $30/ft from the local Parker dealer.

Your currency conversion is fucked up. $2.15 USD is the gross national product of Canada.
