sch10 Steel Welding?!?
Of the umpteen-thousand welding, exhaust, all-things-automotive, and even bodyshops I've called, everyone says sch10 (like the elbows and tees I just ordered from AceStainless) are too thin for anything they can do?!
I wanted to have someone TIG the fittings onto my flange, but it seems not a single business near me has the capabilities... Well, someone does I just can't find them! Maybe one of you guys are somewhat- local to Rancho Cucamonga 91739 and can weld for me? I'll bring a 12 pack! Otherwise, what kind of welder do I want to buy and learn to use? PS: Can I just use a sawsawl to lop the flange off my header, then clean it up with a dremel? Thanks! |
Re: sch10 Steel Welding?!?
I dont have any issues with schedule 10.

Re: sch10 Steel Welding?!?
Im assuming your using 1 1/2" pipe? if so, thats a wall thickness of.109.... not exactly thin. These shops are blowing you off because they dont want to mess with it. Take it to a true fabrication/welding shop and stop screwing around with exhaust shops that are scared of thickwall stainless.

Re: sch10 Steel Welding?!?
I went to lop the flange off my old header today, and the sawsawl's battery won't hold any damn charge! Hack saw ok? :6
By the way, I found someone who will weld the manifold up for me, dunno how their work is, or their rates for that matter. Just that, they will do it. Neighbor owns an 80's Z car and they've fabbed some things for him. Hopefully I'll get in touch with the shop as soon as my tees and elbows get here. |
Re: sch10 Steel Welding?!?
Just buy a flange. They are only $25.
