SBC - full length headers to y-pipe to turbo
1 Attachment(s)
Hey guys,
I have a 1970 Chevy C10 has a recently rebuilt stock 4-bolt main 350 in it - been wanting to put together a turbo kit for it for a while now and finally have a little bit of cash and some materials/equipment to put it together. I have full length headers on it right now and I know its not the best way to go about it but was thinking of y-piping from the headers and putting together some sort of up pipe to a single turbo - is this a horrible idea? I'm doing this on a budget and I would be doing all the fab work myself - have a lot more time/exhaust pipe scraps than money. ;) I was thinking it can't be worse than a rear mounted turbo as the exhaust plumbing would still ultimately be shorter than a rear mounted set up and charge piping would end up the same as it would with a standard front mounted set up. Here's a rough sketch I threw together on MSpaint of what I'm thinking - I would obviously try to keep the exhaust plumbing as short as possible. Turbo would likely be a Powermaster 76mm .96 Exhaust housing or something similar, blow-through carb. Power goals are very modest - honestly just looking for a fun winter project to fire up the welder on. https://www.homemadeturbo.com/attach...ine=1472628161 Let me know what you guys think. Thanks in advance! -Angelo |
