Rust + Front End repair 101
 

My buddy was building had to build a site for his school project, as a joke i said build me one for my car.
next thing i know he needs pics and a wright up lol.
so i finally got around to doing my rust repair wright up

its not very detailed cuz we didnt have alot of time but it will give you the rough idea.
ill also keep adding things to it and go more in depth for the repair process.

Nice...I do have 1 question when you go to paint how do you prep? obiously some primer over the bare metal but how far do you go over the original paint if any and how do you blend the new paint in with the old, with the clearcoat and all?

Nice, I was thinking of posting up my crx wheel well repair, but I'm lazy. You should add the filling/painting process to the site!

ill add everything from rust to filler to paint. just need pics and time
as for the paint
the best way is to spray self etching primer and on the metal and take it to a paint shop
blending and ---- is hard and you need good gun control and good product.
no since this is hmt i know thats not the answer you wanted so...
after the bondo is straight spray self etching primer on the bear metal (this is a special primer that sticks to bear metal very well and gives a good bond for normal primer) make sure the metal do not have deep scratches (id suggest finishing with 220-320)
if your doing a small spot you can just give a few (5 wet coats make sure to give proper dry time between coats) then give it a minor sand
if its a big spot get some primer surfacer (stuff in a spry can ain't too good but it can do) this fills scratches better but dose not like metal
once the primer has cured sand it with 400 then 600 sand the entire panel your painting with 600
paint over the primer with your base coat, make sure you cover all of it well so it dosnt bleed through and blend it out a bit farther on each coat.
let it dry well (to prevent solvent pop 1-2 hrs on a warm day) spray entire panel with clear coat no more then 2 wet coats

thats a fast rough idea on how to do it

lofl ya he had to do something fancy for the project it resizes when you change the size of the page

thx i like it to, and i love that pretty much no one knows what it stands for... every one guesses honda .... ....

and thx its enough that most of the ppl here can have a basic place to start and im always down for helping or answering questions.

I'll get to it eventually.. I used some rustrepair.com patch panels, but man, for the CRX they suck ass, because I think the manufacturer thinks that an EF hatch shares the same rear wheel arch dimensions as the CRX, which is not true at all. I had to do alot of doctoring to get the things to fit correctly. I also had to fab up some metal for the inner fenderwells, which were slightly rotted as well. I'm putting it together now. It looks pretty damn sweet.

That is pretty much why I haven't ordered a set yet. The hatch has a totally different shape behind the wheel opening.
