roll cage

well my cage from S&W race cars came in today, so i took it outside to just have a look at the fitment. It looks like they made the cage for a sunroof car (lower headliner), and in my 97 4 door dx, the main hoop looks like it sits about 3-4 inches below the headliner. The other thing is that the bend in the hoop brings the uprights further inward from the flat spot behind the driver seat by the rockers, which is where it seems most people mount the hoop. I know pics would help but ill try to get them later, does anyone have any insights? should the height not bother me? should i maybe try to bend the main hoop out a little bit to get it to mount right on the fla spot as opposed to more inward on the floorpan?...pics of your cage mounting points and the hoop height are appreciated

I don't think you should be worried about the legs being bent inward until you put the harness bar in. It would only take a very slight too much of a bend to make it do that, but when you install the harness bar you can actually use the harness bar to push it back out. More than likely it will push them back out anyway if there was a slight "bent too much" in the manufacturing process.

My main hoop I actually cut about 2" off of to get it where I wanted. It would be strange that yours seems too short right off the bat, but you could always fiddle with the plates to get some height out of the main hoop. You could also build "boxes" that attach to the rocker panels as well. One thing that I didn't do that I'm going to now is to attach the floor plates to the rockers because I don't like the thin floorpan saving my ass. The 2 middle bars I'm also building a box for where I originally welded them to the floor with no plates.

I'd bolt the plates to the floor before I welded them to the floor if i had to do it all over again. No doubt.

good thinking with the crossbar, but even with it wedged in there it stil doesnt hit the flat spots by the rockers (plus in order to wedge it in there it kidna ends up being a bit low)...looks like im building boxes for the hoop mounting poits, are there rules about them?...got any more pics of your ---- stevemode, only two worked
