Radiator modification
I got a radiator and it will not fit my civic engine bay, unless I "change" the position of the bottom hose connector:
Example: http://www.shrani.si/f/o/sa/3jxIlv2K/108455001n.jpg The tanks are plastic, so I am wondering if I can use some sort of glue to rellocate the fitting? CAN this be done? |
Re: Radiator modification
get a refund and buy an aluminum one?

Re: Radiator modification
I guess if you gotta do it, you gotta do it. Can't imagine it will turn out too well though. I'm thinking plumbers putty, or some of that 2 part plastic welder epoxy (waterproof) with an square of plastic to patch the hole. Clean/sand the surfaces well.

Re: Radiator modification
Thanks guys, I found a shop nearby that can weld plastic. Hope they can do it :)

Re: Radiator modification
In my experience JB doesn't like staying on plastic radiator tanks.
|
Re: Radiator modification
why don't you just cap that one off with a plug and a hose clamp.
Then get a barb fitting about the size of that hose with thread, drill the hole for it and tap the thread. Screw it in with plenty of teflon tape and it should work, to be 100% it works, put hella ------- jb weld aroung the thread also. |
Re: Radiator modification
This thread gets pics of the plastic welding by Tuesday or its locked.

Re: Radiator modification
for the price of ebay radiators you gotta be a cheap mofo, broke mofo, or dumb mofo to even try this. a a stock one can be had for free, I just threw mine away. quit being cheap and go to the junkyard, or ebay. can someone help him out here, I would if I was close.

Re: Radiator modification
why not just put a 90 on the outlet, shoot over with a peice of steel pipe, pop another 90 on there, another 2'' peice of steel pipe and connect to the orginal pipe.

Re: Radiator modification
no no no, he's got the right idea, plastic-weld...or glue...whatever, fill'er up, bleed it, put on the cap, and make sure the camera is rolling
please :y |
Re: Radiator modification
Lots of questions guys :S
@t_cel_t: Can't do this, because the current position of the fitting is interferring with my car's chassis. @rudebwoy: I don't live in USA, so I would have to wait 3-4weeks(+paying post costs & taxes) to get the radiator from usa + mine is just fine except for the fitting placement :-\ @CSaddict: Let just left this thread open for another week, the shop is full of work, so I will have to wait, but it will be plastic welded. @CivicOCD: Pics coming next week, because the shop is a little full of work ;) |

Otherwise it's just good as it is, because its a dual core like that from b16a2 engined cars. Other d16xx have very thin(one core) radiators also that size. |
Re: Radiator modification
my D15 $92 radiator is dual core.
Come with a lifetime warranty, how long is that hack job gonna last? |
Re: Radiator modification
did you bother to pressure/leak test this or just 'this looks good'
|
Re: Radiator modification
|
Re: Radiator modification
You all must be paying to much for a radiator the last two i bought where 35 and 45. Both where dual core. Hell i even sold one and made enough to cover both. I say it will hold for awhile
|
i have to say i cant believe no1 pointed you towards some fiberglass.... theres rad fix kits that would have been perfect for you, but hey gj and gl
|
Cut one cap off, then use a block-off plate you're rivet or bolt on to seal it. That works best with thin plastic rather than JUST epoxy or sealant. THen weld up a flanged tube to bolt on the same way.
|
Done!
The radiator is in and running! No leaks or anything. Just perfect! If something happens I will report:-P
|
kewl

Dude you crazy as hell. That sh!t would not pass tech to save your life at a track. Good thing its for the street
