Re: pedal stop
ok after searching whole internet and could not find any pics or writeup of ways of installing a pedal stop, I started brainstorming while I was drunk last night.
10 minutes ago I started digging through my box of junk, and found these http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/7150/dsc09695fw8.jpg long long nut that I think came off my AC bracket. about 1" long 12mm bolt thread. notice in this pics there is a pic of competition clutch's example? I think my idea is better. I thought about welding it to the pedal also. then I broke out and dust off the flux mig, cut a hole in my carpet+padding and weld the nut to the floor. http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/9505/dsc09697jp6.jpg end result http://img92.imageshack.us/img92/5415/dsc09698eq1.jpg all that for this http://img92.imageshack.us/img92/7182/dsc09694uv2.jpg plus I had to order a new clutch and slave cylinder because mine's are worn. maybe xenocron can post this in his tech section. |

why you need a pedal stop?

Re: pedal stop writup with pics competition clutch
its recomended by competition clutch when using a twin disc clutch to prevent damage and chatter to the pressure plate, if you over engage the the clutch it will break the pressure plate and also cause the disc to wear quicker. noticed the instrutions in the first pic?
the thing I did not like is that they don't tell you about the required modification until after you buy the clutch. the competition twin disc is a touch and go clutch quick shifting, all yu ave to do is tap on the pedal and shift into gear quick. an 1/2" of clutching. |

ahhh
adjustment is done by feal? just enough to disengage? |
Re: pedal stop writup with pics competition clutch

Re: pedal stop writup with pics competition clutch
The really serious reason is IF the throwout bearing hyperextends the spring... It CAN hit the disks (the spring itself)... and youll know it... It sounds GREAT when it does it. Mine doesnt come close.. but it wont stop any PP chatter. Your not getting chatter from the pressure plate, it comes from the splines fitment in the hub... WHich you canrt do SHITY about.
Other than a safegaurd to not overextending the springt assy.... it will only help the intermidiate plate not rattle around SO much as there isnt as much room for it to "walk around" in between the disks once the stop is adjusted I dont have one, but do plan on putting one in. Looks like what you rigged willl work fine for you. Mines going to have to be different than that though with a Broader face on the stop itself.... Cant wait to see numbers fool!!!! |

Re: pedal stop writeup with pics competition clutch
BTW, quite a few other cars running single disc setups could use a travel limit bolt.........
Over travel is possible even with a stock D series setup, the PP fingers start to grab the flywheel bolts. This is a bigger problem when everyone wanted to try the quicker OMNI clutch MC, but simple hyrdaulic displacement would have been a help here. |
