the one in the pics was for jeff white crx the project was a total waste i would not try it again without some serious fiberglass experience

Re: one piece front end?

my job is fiberglass. i work on fiberglass and carbonfiber airplanes. i have made plenty of my own parts but if i was going to do a one piece front end i would talk to http://www.wholesalehyperformance.com/ something like that is way too much work for just a one time thing. if you were going to mass produce them then it would be ok to try to make your own, but you will be a lot happier in the end just buying one

Re: one piece front end?

if u are gonna make ur own, put siran rap then vasiline all over the area's your gonna lay fiber glass... then use the car as a mold, pour then lay then pour then lay, let dry pull off sand n paint. it aint as hard as some people make it out to be but as beau said, sometimes it aint worth it cuz it doesn't always come out perfect... good luck.

JeenYus 10-19-2005 02:24 PM

Re: one piece front end?

you need a hardener too i beleive, this is added with the mixture.

70Challenger 10-19-2005 05:25 PM

Re: one piece front end?

fiberglass mat, resin, hardener, alot of time...

I've build speaker boxs out of fiberglass before, but i used fleece because it stretchs more, but it wasnt near as strong as fiberglass mat

make sure you have news paper or somthing under the areas your fiberglassing to catch drips unless you dont care about the surface your working on.

Beau

Re: one piece front end?

You obviously have no idea how to do fiberglass work so why don't you go to your friend google, and do a search. making a comlpete front end for your first project. You can get a kit with everything you need for a small project from pepboys. try msking a guage pod first, and see if you think you can handle a whole front end

Yeah i agree, for someone that knows noting about fiberglassing, this is an awfully big project to take on. Try making something small first. So that you get used to working with the stuff. Then there will be less imperfections on the front end.

Re: one piece front end?

Re: one piece front end?

I bet it would look alot better if you made that the mold and laid fiberglass inside of that piece you made. Alot smother and I bet it would fit better.

Re: one piece front end?

did you use fiberglass cloth or matte?

Slo_crx1 10-22-2005 01:02 PM

Re: one piece front end?

You're actually supposed to make a mold of the front end first, and then lay your glass and resin into the mold. And you're going to need some pretty thick layers...i would think at least 3 or 4 gallons of resin if not more to make it strong enough. Then after that dries, you sand down the rough top layers, apply your gelcoat, let that dry, add a little bondo here and there, sand it, prime it, then you're done. Trust me...it takes forever to do this stuff. I used to build fiberglass tubs for 911's at the old speed shop i worked at, and it's not even worth the effort of doing it yourself. It would actually be cheaper to just go and buy one, and look better too if you've never done this stuff before.
