my welding sucks please help !!!!!

ok i've been tring to weld and its just not working, i got a little wire feed for $400 from home depot. just not getting it. i was reading on here about someone who has welds that look like mine. and it said to fix them turn the speed down to low and turn the heat all the way up. didnt work, it just pops. like constant pop pop pop pop, so please. tell me what the ---- i'm doing wrong, look like ------- bird ----. now do you guys go just like in a strait line or in little circles, what heat levels and all that ----, mainly just want to do my own mani. how the ---- do i controll this thing .

a flux core mig isnt what id be making a mani with.

you need to play with the heat and wire feed speed.

eventually youll get it. ---- doesnt happen overnight

Are you even sure your welder came with flux core wire? Maybe its regular wire and you need sheilding gas?

Ya, if you can post pics do it.

What Welder? What Wire are you Using. If it is flux core, use only the good ----. Lincoln Brand is what I have had the best results with.

Flux Core can be very finiky!! It took me a long time to get it right. There is a real fine line between too much wire and not enough. Also the cleaner the surface te better. Great welds can be produced with flux core if that's all you got. I haven't done it for a long time, so about a motn hago I popped a spool in and I could get it going well for at least 30 min of playing around

That's not bad price for a 220volt unit. How is the make, It isn't a cheap Habour frieght style is it. I've been looking for a fairly portable 220v.

Re: my welding sucks please help !!!!!

That was me ! I've been practicing for about a year now on and off the only thing I can say is the fluxcore will look like ---- until you grind it down a slag hammer is a good tool to have too ! I eventually got mine done though I do this when I'm welding ((((((((((((( I just wait for a puddle and then push it around in that shape full circles work too. I just got alot of crazy ---- form the junk yard and freinds projects and learned that way. Practice by making a caddie for it so you don't have to haul it around every where thats on of the things I did. No matter what we do the welds will never look as good as some of these TIG machines but they'll work. Let me know if you want any pics or you can just go to my sentra project in this forum. Good luck. DL

For building manifolds you would be better off with a stick welder.

when im welding with cheepo welders, i weld in small puddles, you dont just hold it n keep going. try to practice doing this...

(0(0(0(0(0(0(0

hold it for a few seconds to get contact n make a small puddle then let go n move down 1 milimeter. then keep going til you have a decent bead

Re: my welding sucks please help !!!!!

well its like i told you it sucks manily because you suck...lol....but no it a shitty weilder and you want to turn the speed down it gets choppy so you have to run with a higher speed but other then that you just suck :S

i would recomend slowing down (your speed of movment) and running a figure 8 pattern hold the weilder at a 45degree angle to the metal and little go in little 8's

Re: my welding sucks please help !!!!!

first make sure you grind/sand where ever youre welding, then , stop being scared of the welder. grab the the knob while youre welding and adjust the wirespeed till it stops popping and its just like bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. if you feel the wire pushing on the metal you're welding, the speed is too fast . either turn up the heat or turn down the wire speed.

Is this the best way to weld with a Fluxcore? My unit is only a 70amp 110v unit. And I'll be attempting to weld schedule 40 pipes. Worth the effort? Or should I just tack the peices together and take it to a machine shop for final welding?

cmoney is a horrible welder... he took a welding class in highschool ...hasnt welded since .. he has mad tight farmer skills ... i would go in small circles figure 8's is retarded and gives off way to wide of a weld

Wink, you can weld up to 3\16" or so with 70 amps and flux core. My first welder was a 70amp job and I could weld 1\4" but I wouldn't get full penetration.

I guess it will do just fine. These schedule 40 fittings I'm using are just a hair over 1/8" thick. I may not get the perfect penetration, but beveling the joints should help alot.

Thanks,

Re: my welding sucks please help !!!!!

Crank the heat all the way on these small welders and only weld for a very short time in a strreatch. When you get a hissing sound then you have the wire speed set right.Bevel any but welds and lay the filler into the V grove.Grind down to bare metal to get the best penetration with small welders.

Re: my welding sucks please help !!!!!

Unfortunately, I only have a Campbell Hausfield WF1800 welding machine. Unlike most of the low-end units I've seen, this one doesn't have the wire speed adjustment knob. It only has two settings, High and low. The wire speed is preset to the heat setting. So I have less control over the welds than most with similar machines. Wish me the best.
