my recent project...enjoy

21 Attachment(s)
well fuckers its been a while since i wason here and posted. i actualy got married this past year and got a really great job at a incredibly busy shop. been workingg on buying a house and hopefully having a little me running around soon,.
but my project...
i acquired a gm8 brand new for 50 bux from my job and decided my wrangler that i bought for $1 could use a little turbo love. for the tank it is, it moves pretty damn good to about 3k where i let off cause the wastegate i have is 18psi :-X/. if any one has a internal gate thats about 7-8 psi let me know. i need.

this is what i started with....i got 10 3.5" bends for 60 bux on ebay, and to combo bends.
Attachment 13969

first i figured out where i wanted the turbo to go...
Attachment 13970

then i relocated my battery to the trunk. i acutally un bolted the existing tray and used sheet metal screws to secure it in the trunk, and used the original hold down. i got some 4 gauge wire from napa and some terminal ends, and there ya go.
Attachment 13971

i then relocated the fuse box to where the battery used to be...
Attachment 13972

i started the downpipe fab..
Attachment 13973

and then i forgot to take pics so heres the finished product...
up pipe using most of the stock front pipe..
Attachment 13974
where it meets the turbo..i had to extend and reroute the alternator cable. had some spare 4gauge
from the battery
Attachment 13975
the downpipe
Attachment 13976
Attachment 13977
Attachment 13978
before this where the cat was is a 3" in and out muffler then flared to a 3.5" exhaust. it fit freaking perfect!
Attachment 13979
Attachment 13980
Attachment 13981
brackets holding the turbo..
Attachment 13982
oil lines...i had two sections of ss braided brake lines from my s4 and the worked perfect off the t and
at the turbo. the piece in the middle is 3/16 brake line. the T is from homedepot and is 1/8 pipe thread
Attachment 13983
fuel pump and fmu. i had the pump neatly mounted on the fire wall but i made so much damn noise i clamped it to the fuel rail. i made up a relay for it using the existing fuel pump wires. its prefect.you can see the relay in the fuse box pic
Attachment 13984
finished deal...

Holy ----, look what the cat dragged in! Im turboing my Jeep Cherokee right now too. You should join the offroad club I belong to. www.SISoffroad.com There is a lot of Fairfield guys in it. Conrats on getting married. Build looks great. I was going to use an FMU and a pump but I did 36lbs injectors and an AFC.

Re: my recent project...enjoy

haha no ----. what turbo you using? the pump and fmu work great i just need to get a smaller wastegate. i acutally am getting 20-30 more mpg turboed than not. how does it run with the afc? post some pics dood. i went out last weekend with it and its amazing how many kids are interested in a turbo jeep.

Re: my recent project...enjoy

All my parts are sitting in a box. Im starting it shortly. Im running a ching chong .48/.60 T3/T04E.

I like the DP welded to the exhaust housing. That is classic!

mahcivic 10-06-2008 04:41 PM

Re: my recent project...enjoy

i didnt want to use an external wastegate so i cut the elbow off the housing and made that ganster ----.. its perfect. i consider that part of the downpipe a part of the turbo. cause its a pain to get off. lol

Great setup, I like the way the turbo is mounted!

But, don't you think the engine movement will act badly on the turbo or the charge pipe?

SpankedYA! 10-06-2008 07:16 PM

Re: my recent project...enjoy

Why would it? It would all move with the engine. The only thing that wouldn't is the DP.

NIGn0g 10-06-2008 07:30 PM

Re: my recent project...enjoy

The turbo looks fixed to the body, but maybe its not...

Re: my recent project...enjoy

I see that fender mount now. I saw the A/C bracket at first.

mahcivic 10-06-2008 09:14 PM

Re: my recent project...enjoy

ya i got ride of that fender bracket . i was really just a way to hold everything in place till i got the downpipe and up pipe fabbed up. the thing sounds freaking mean. ill have to make a video once i get a smaller wastegate.

Re: my recent project...enjoy

Are you retarding the timing at all? I got an MSD BTM for mine. How are you doing it?

mahcivic 10-07-2008 08:54 AM

Re: my recent project...enjoy

im not doing anything yet. most people i have talked to say they never noticed any kind of pinging. im just running 93 gas and i got a set of champion 2 step colder plugs. once i get the boost dialed in correctly ill let you know how it is, since right now i dont bring it past 3k. it does however start biulding boost by 1800rpm. its like a k03 on an audi. do you know anyone that has a smaller wastegate i could pick up. im trying to not spend anymore money on this thing since i set a goal of 500 bux and spending anymore would break my goal. let me know if you do.

SpankedYA! 10-07-2008 07:01 PM

Re: my recent project...enjoy

Ill check around the shop. Any flange? I just installed my BTM. I figure I will need it due to the AFC advancing me.

mahcivic 10-07-2008 07:46 PM

Re: my recent project...enjoy

ill take whatever you got just need something that isnt 18psi. im gonna check ebay.

mahcivic 10-07-2008 10:12 PM

Re: my recent project...enjoy

hey dave i have like 5 or so of those 3.5 in pipes left over if you want to make a sexy sounding exhaust. you can have for the cost of shipping or a wastegate if you like. :) they are just chillin in the back seat making noise. however. what is the best way to aim my exhaust tip so that i dont sufficate from carbonmonoxide like i am currently doing. aiming down probably? or ....

SpankedYA! 10-07-2008 11:17 PM

Re: my recent project...enjoy

Yeah Wranglers always pull the exhaust back in. Aim it down. Im staying with 2.5 exhaust for now. I needs to fit over my crossmember I built. Thanks for the offer though!

nice build man, very impressed. Im friends with Dave (CSaddict) and I'm getting everything together now to turbo my Wrangler, i have a 95 YJ 6 cyl. Im going to try to run an intercooler, i have a few small side mounts from older Saabs and a factory front mount from a volvo 740 but I think the running the piping will be a pain in the ass with the volvo IC. anyway nice build man i hope to get the same good results.
