for the turbo project me & my buddy are doing

its not fully done, i plan to cut about 2" off the end (why the weld doesn't go all the way), i still need to clean up the inside middle merge & weld, but not bad for my first time constructing one, & using my ol' chopsaw

BTW ignore the bumper...my buddy was just test fitting it ( i don't really like it) but hes hoping it'll distract people from the intercooler, instead of looking "good"

toss that one as practice.

your start & stops, and your beads are not consistant enough. once mounted & heat cycled, especially if built with stress in it. it'll split that real quick. also helpful would be making yourself a little jig to hold the pieces while you cut them. that way they're all as close to the same as practical :) slick fitment is sex.

you just need some beapractice welding more than anything pipe, or not. see if you can run your beads longer without stopping, in a straight line. cure the burn through by traveling faster as you go as heat builds up. when you watch the weld puddle, it should be a consistant width. so keep the angles correct & watch the puddle :)

actully, my fitment was very well, 3 out of 4 sides were completly flat against each other...the insde is a mess

what you see is my 3rd weld...my first passes were very nice, & my 2nd & 3rds got shitty (mainly from swiping at bugs attacking me, lol)

but yeah, it can be better...i just dunno if i wanna fight with the chopsaw again...i need to get a bandsaw!!!

actully i have an idea...that might make a much cleaner result...

say i make 2 'Y' merges...then cut them on one side to mate to each other...?

when i was cutting the single pipe on 2 sides...the 2nd cut was always hard (took forever to get done), & not very consistant...

No don't do that. Do all possibly sub-assembly before making it.
Otherwise it'll get worse.. You're trusting that your fitting & welding will be the same on both pieces.

Plus it's easier, more accurate & faster to leave the saw setup one way & make 8 cuts at once than make 4 cuts, then have to flip it to make two more.
