moving internal wastegate
search is broken but..
i have a bmc race adapter plate w/ STD manifold and saab t3. as we all know the internal gate runs into the block. is it possible to cut down the mount that the internal gate uses and mount it in the same spot, as long as the arm is fully extended and flapper is closed? :6 |
Re: moving internal wastegate
Sorry man I'm lost. If I had pics of what you are speaking of I could probably assist. I have no first hand experience with those parts.

Re: moving internal wastegate
if you stretch the flapper arm you'll increase the ammount of boost it takes to open the wastegate flapper. People mount them to the block. its more about the tension between the arm and the flapper than where its mounted.

Re: moving internal wastegate
is there a write up or guide on where and how to re-mount it on the block or could you help me a little bit?!
so i want to cut somewhere along the yellow line: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ate006edit.jpg and re mount it in stock location : http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...stegate003.jpg |
Re: moving internal wastegate
Bah, a domestic :)
As long as the actuator rod doesn't bind I think it will be fine. |
Re: moving internal wastegate
bahah!
i'm just worried i'm going to cut it and it's still not going to clear the block |
Re: moving internal wastegate
Then make a bracket and put it wherever you can.

Re: moving internal wastegate
Oh my god. Cut the flange off the wastegate, get a piece of 1" by 1/4" thick (they well this ---- at any hardware store), position the wastegate in such a way that it can open the wastegate (ie connect orthogonally to the wastegate flapper), then cut, modify, and weld the piece of metal from the wastegate actuator to something steel on the turbo. It's not hard. Want me to come drive the car for you too?
