Miller Synchrowave 250
 

I wanted to get some thoughts on this unit... It looks like a solid one, but the prices seems a bit too good to be true.. The owner has shown me it welding some buttwelds, but I know practically nothing about them...

I'm going to using this to work on some auto stuff... I'm looking to get a 3" downpipe for my turbo, and once I got this down, it'd open the door for me to make others, as they are none made for my car...

But back to topic, for those seasoned welders out there, I am looking for pros and cons, as well as any other recommendations for someone w/ roughly a $1000 budget...

yea that's what I have been told by some guys I work with... I'm having a friend go w/ me this weekend to check it out to make sure everything's a go on it...

it's an older version of the 250, but not acient or anything... I've seen the owner weld on it, but he may know the tricks to make it work... Hopefully my friend gives it the green light...

put it this way, i just bought a new sync 200 for $2200 and that was on sale $550 off

A G for a Syncrowave is a steal. I paid 1850 for my syncrowave 200 when it was first released. They got in 2 machines I got one and my buddy got the other. 250 was so far out of the budget it didn't even make sinse. Even used. Now is the time to buy used equipment.

Yup I have the same welder...it's the workhorse of manufacturing plants. Mine was pulled from an operating assembly line, I paid 1500 shipped to my shop with no accessories. It welds extremely well, is easy to use, but some of the downfalls of it are:
it is power hungry, you should have 100amps available for this welder if you plan on welding some thicker aluminum. I had to move mine over to a 100amp breaker to weld up some intercoolers. I just couldnt get it hot enough on a dual 40amp breaker, it kept popping. It also has a large cooling fan, that is pretty loud, mine fortunetly has a thermostat installed so it kicks on when you really are pulling some amperage. It is not an inverter type welder, so you wont get those skinny little aluminum welds like some of the inverter guys get, but you do get completely acceptable deep penetrated welds nonetheless. If you can get it with a ground lead/torch/pedal & power connector, and you can test weld on both the ac and dc neg and it welds fine...then by all means you wont be disappointed!

Oh btw the old skool syncrowave 250 with analog volt and amp meters did all the welding on my MINI Turbo post...
