Mig welding Aluminum.

I'm just wondering if there is any one out there that has done some Aluminum welding with Mig setup.

Far as i know is: You need a non metalic liner feed line, U track friction rollers, and you still use Positive polarity.

i would like to see some pics...
while back i bought roll of aluminum feed and tried it but the ---- got a bunched up in my liner so yanked it out.

before i think about buying a new liner for this i was wondering if any one has done it. and what were there thoughts.

Another note: I can't afford a Decent Tig so, buying a liner is far cheaper.
yeahs it going be a bitch chaning out liners and rollers to switch from Aluminum and Steel.

you will have to switch over to 100% argon. Miller has a spool matic conversion which is swanky, but pricey.

I have never done it with the liner but I have done it with a spool gun.I wouldnt bother with anything less than about 16ga because its not a real precise process.

My problem was the Jacket liner.. the aluminum feed got a fucked up inside.

maybe i can build somthing that i can run aluminum feed through... since its just a tube/switch/ tweako fitting and gas lens

i wonder if i will Burn my self.. :6 O0

You can get affordable spool guns now that is the only way to go.I find the setting are touchy when migging alum but once you get the hang of it you can turn out some decent work.

Best thing is to buy a torch that is push-pull. that way you dont have an expencive, heavy, small wank as spool to hold, and since the gun has it's own drive rollers it keeps tension on the wire, and keeps it from breaking and kinking.
Be sure you get the right wire.

Already been said you need argon, nothing to contaminate it, and heavy duty clean that ----!

i migged some aluminum a week ago or so. all i did was change the wire. the welds looked like ass but held very strong

If your going to attempt it, get a spool gun. The wire kinking will get old after a while.

Ive use the henrob torch before. Its pretty good for welding but you have to set it up right and the valves are extremely touchy. If you dont set it up right it will boil the puddle. Ive never done aluminum with it before though.
