Make one out of a keg or similar large aluminum drum.

 

Well you might not need to weld. Cut an appropriately sized hole in the top, side, or whatever. Then bolt a pump inside it with a beadlock type thing and gas resistant sealer. Just an idea. I don't see why you can't use steel though.

 

is it possible for gasoline to corrode steel over long periods of time? or maybe eat thru the welds? my guess id the chemistry behind it, or maybe people just dont do it

 

What's the gas tank in your car made of? What are your valves, injectors, and cylinder walls made of? What are fuel lines made of? What are gas cans made of? (old ones)

If you need a fuel cell then maybe its a good idea to get a real one with a blatter in it. The last thing Id want is to be covered in gas because I thought I needed a fuel cell then catch on fire

 

Fuel cells can be bought pretty cheap nowadays. I wouldn't try to cobble one together.
