Log mani (please help) and my new project
8 Attachment(s)
i finally got a digi cam, so i can finally post some pics of my projects. I had a d series head flange laying around for the longest time, i thought i could weld good enough to put it together... but im having a little trouble. I cant weld inbetween the runners, its too tight for my lift arc torch to get into. I was also a little fucked up when i was cutting the elbows and cut the same one twice :X So i had to use an extra little ring on one side. Thats when i deemed it a practice manifold :3
Attachment 22670 Attachment 22671 Attachment 22672 Attachment 22673 sweet ass welding cart i made with the hf flux core :6 And my newest proj: I did a timing chain on a nissan 240, and got this truck Attachment 22674 Attachment 22675 with this engine Attachment 22676 Attachment 22677 4wd stick shift 22rte truck, ive wanted one for a long time. Engine needs a rebuild, so it will be awhile before i get it going. |
Re: Log mani (please help) and my new project
Thats not tight at all man, just pull the tungsten out a little more and
you shouldnt have a problems getting it done. Sweet as truck BTW :6 |
Re: Log mani (please help) and my new project
that truck never came turbo. either your pile of ---- in the garage is spare, or you've yet to put it on. cant be ------ boosted witout a turbo..
$190 and ill weld you up a log for that truck, but then again, you have a welder. get your head flange from LCE, with 1 5/8 ports. |
Re: Log mani (please help) and my new project
Pull the tungsten out and turn up the gas. Maybe try a small cup too to get in there closer.
|
Re: Log mani (please help) and my new project
the truck didnt come turbo, but it came with a beat 22rte engine, ecu, harness, and everything that bolts to the engine. Just needs a rebuild. yeah, ill be welding up my own mani for that thing.
the log- i used a #5 cup and with the tungsten out like 1" with 30cfh of gas... It helped get most of the way around, but there are still spots that i cant reach/see what im welding. Maybe im in the wrong position? It didnt weld very good at all with these settings, it was burning the tungsten pretty bad. Thats what the reddish orange ---- is right? |
Re: Log mani (please help) and my new project

Re: Log mani (please help) and my new project
i have an 8, its kinda hard to get in there with that. I also ordered a gas lens, but i think i got the wrong one for my torch.. i cant seem to figure out how it works. Theres a glass cup or something that goes on the end of that brass threaded fitting with the screen in the end?

more than welcome, me and my buddie from highschool just got our own house.. so were livin' it up here. Its nice to do whatever the ---- you want. We have a dirtbike track in our backyard :6 |
Re: Log mani (please help) and my new project
next time weld the pipe first then weld that T's and elbows to the flange. That's how I did my log. But then again I mig'd mine.
|
Re: Log mani (please help) and my new project
can anyone else comment on the order of the welding? I always thought you tacked the pipes to the flange, then tacked them all to eachother. Broke the tacks on the head flange and welded all the runners, then weld it back to the flange.

i guess im still having a bit of a problem with torch angle too. When ever the weld is in an easy position, and the fitment of the pipes is good like the dead middle weld in between the Ts, my welds look real nice. But when im in an awkward position thats real tight or i cant see too well, its hard to get a puddle going. Im starting to see the disadvantage of the lift arc now. I think ive outgrown its capabilities.
when your welding to the head flange inbetween the runners, do you add filler in front of the puddle as it moves tword you? maybe someone could take a pic for me of how they would weld it. Ill take one of how ive been doing it. Attachment 22640 Attachment 22641 how do you finish this weld? I cant do it left handed! |
Re: Log mani (please help) and my new project
Your gonna have to learn with your hand now.
It's not that hard just rest it on something while you weld. |

in this stiuation try turning the manifold so the angle is better and run the filler between the runners as well as your line of sight and also weres your plate to bolt the head flange to? |
Re: Log mani (please help) and my new project
if you're keeping that 22rte topend stuff.. just swap intake on, and build a header for a t3. BUY pistons, some nice forged will do. also, turbo rods are marginally stronger

Just wrap your wrist around like a lefty writes.

im using the whole 22rte engine. But the block needs an overbore, so i have to buy pistons anyway. I dont understand what you mean by swapping intakes. Im gonna use the stock manifold and the ct20 untill i get some money to put into the project. Building the engine is gonna cost a pretty penny, so im just gonna get it running before i do anything cool to it. Well, i do plan on adding an intercooler, hard pipes, and a 7mge maf. I've always wanted a truck, and especially a turbo toyota. Yoda's are my first love, god i miss my alltrac :'( |
Re: Log mani (please help) and my new project
the truck was na originally and currently has a spun bearing. So that engine is fucked. The truck came with a 22rte that had been sitting around for a while and theres some rust on the cyl walls. Its gonna need an overbore. I was planning on swapping the entire 22rte in, since it uses the same mounts and all. Is your 22rte in running condition? What about the other 2?

just hone your 22rte block, rust means nothing. spray that ---- down good, get a 3M finishing pad, scrub the rust off, and do a light hone. problem solved |
Re: Log mani (please help) and my new project
nah, the walls are pitted. Its gonna need an overbore. I kinda want forged pistons anyway
Do you know where i can find a turbo tranny for cheap? |
