i know i can always grind down, re-weld, grind... blob that ---- up... but I'm trying to learn how to not have to do that if possible with my setup. I don't mind spending the $ on gas/wire if it's going to help me out in the long run

here is a tiny update, I got some new wire, the .023 stuff again, I like it much more... I had an old thick *** large-frame T3 flange lying ariound that I will never use so I figured I'd try it out. I havent welded in 4 days or so and this was my results.

I then welded up the inside for good measure/practice.

With the thick *** flange i noticed its hard to get deep penetration with the 16ga. tubing, so I tried my best. I also had a few old flanges off turbo setups downpipes that were used and I wirewheels the carbon deposits off the inside of the flanges/pipe and the penetration looks to be just as much as in my first pics.... minimal. What do you guys think about these welds being air/leak tight.

THANKS.

clean your materials, stay away from alumized/galvinized exhaust, use quality wire

Anyone can make a fillet weld look nice. Keep practicing your butt welds if you're that worried about your i/c pipes. Looks ok, for being a welding noob surprisingly. Practice makes perfect

did this today... new mild steel ----

you can see where I stopped and restarted, I'm working on the floor of my garage, when i move into my new garage I will have a table... so i will more easily make the welds more uniform. This passed the water test w/ flying colors
