just picked up welding... critique me you fucks

well I just picked up mig welding, my setup is a thermal arc fabricator 140 gas mig welder uses 110v outlet I didn't want anything more as my garage isnt wired for more power. I just wanted something I could easily use for fabricating my exhaust/shaving my bay/charge piping/misc odds and ends
here is a few pics of my welds after about an hour of playing, I believe the material is aluminized steel. The only cleaning/prep I did was a quick scrape with a wire brush... looking for insight/opinions as I want to be able to flawlessly weld my charge piping/exhaust coming up soon... THANKS Attachment 11258 Attachment 11259 Attachment 11260 Attachment 11261 *these are just quick pics I snapped, sorry for the shitty images. |

fencepost makes good welded materials.
welds look okay for 110v, a bit too much wirefeed id say. throw some weave in there and/or cut down on wire |
Re: just picked up welding... critique me you fucks
I would but you need to use the macro mode on the camera so we can see what you're showing us.
Im with complex, it's obviously a fencepost and flux-core FTW |
Re: just picked up welding... critique me you fucks
wire speed is at 3 out of 10 i believe, i didnt clean the material/grounds worth ---- I just wanted to test my new toy out. I did a couple practice beads with the wire speed set down to about 2 and it seemed to take a lot longer to get the bead done but it seemed to penetrate better with the slower moving... anyone have any tips or any other help? I want to get this down enough to take on my chargepiping, where I know penetration/ a good bead will be key to prevent leaks.

Re: just picked up welding... critique me you fucks
TELLING us wirespeed is garbage. depending on amperage i weld at 3.9-5.0 on my HF 151, which doesn't mean ---- to most of the people here unless they have a 151 or similar

ha i just set my miller 175 to whatever the setting tell me under the cover.
haha needless to say i'm no pro. but things stick |
Re: just picked up welding... critique me you fucks
Im still wondering why even cheap ass welders don't state in-min on the wire-feed. Ink/paint must have cost too much. |

Re: just picked up welding... critique me you fucks
Most of the little ones dont. Sometimes you can find the volt scale volt/amp scale and in/min=amp scales in the manual but I wouldn't trust them. I always clip a wire off and measure it when I sit at a welder if its an important weld on a feeder I haven't used. Never know when the drive may be fucked or someone knocked the controll off center. :\

nevermind the welding, first you should learn how to focus a camera. i'm just one of the "fucks".
