Default IH 304 build, need advice TBI and turbo

planning on doing complete frame off resto to my 78 ih scout soon(not as wicked as the powerwagon josh has cooking) but I do want to mod my engine to run a tbi, electronic ign, turbo and possibly mega squirt, I think I have the tbi system ironed out as far as the how to but i need advice for the turbo sizing, ih sv engines not fast turners or great breathers so I have no expectations or illusions of building either a speed demon or even a pulling wagon just want a nice head turner( something that will get respect from the farm boys with their cummins spooling up all over town)

To get it breathing better, you could always have the heads ported, as well as run headers instead of the stock exhaust manifolds. Better intake flow as well as better exhaust flow definitely helps move air and turn something "sluggish" into something better. If you can swing it, a better than stock intake would be great, or if they dont make any aftermarket intakss for the IH motors, then see if you cant have it ported or polished. Good flow is key to any turbo build

Remember most all turbos like to have an open exhaust, or as free flowing as the state regulations will allow it to flow (catalitic convertor regs, e-tests, you know). A free flowing exhaust will definitely help whatever you put on there spool up faster.

A 304 engine, correct? Single or twin turbo? Budget constraints?

well there is not a lot of available real estate under the hood.so i am looking for an air filter housing of a piece of construction equiptment and plan to cut/and fab a shelf OUTSIDE the fender for intake I am still trying to find an intercooler that will fit in the small space between grill and radiator. I would love to do twins but don't think the plumbing will fit(afraid of heat from overcrowding) something else i was kicking around was the possibility of multi point fuel injection that would be awesome. again i'm not building arace car and if you've ever driven a scout about 65 - 70 feels seat of your pants bordering on unsafe, with a 4" spring and 3" body lift 36" tires I think low and slow will be the rule However I want that turbo whine, so any suggestions will be appreciated. i would rather get a lot of feedback now to think on than commit to a plan and then change it a million times. as for budget , i have a wife and kids , need i say more, if it costs 10 bucks i spent too much, i already dropped 3k at super scout last weekend that covers the body and chassis now on to driveline. c'mon

also they do have an aftermarket aluminum (200$) i was considering it as the heat exchange would be better than the 50 lbs block of cast iron on there now but it only comes 4 barrel, i s'pose it would do ok since i'll have to have an adapter made for the tbi y'think

Just by looking at photos of the engine compartment you are right about the twin turbo setup. I doubt you could run them without constant heat issues because they would be crowded. Theres definatly enough space there for a single though.
