Find somebody's used MIG setup for 150-200. Get something decent, not a HF POS. I've used a HF fluxcore. Poor thing 'bout had a heart attack trying to weld my downpipe and exhaust together. I've seen used Miller MIG setups sell for 200-250 with a regulator and short whip. All in working condition.

+1, i bought a 20 year old mig with a big bottle for 150. Voltage all the way up and it works great.

I hate the 60XX rods, they burn too fast and hard to control them. 7018 is much easier and better to weld with, cleaner too.

Simple rule: do not hold the ground clip with your hand while you weld :P

I had gloves, but there was a little hole in the left one. The stick accidently fall on the pipe while my hand was on the ground clip. Not a fun feeling at all.

Practice is the best way. Even with a cheap welder...

I can't weld that good or even consider my self a welder, but I have a HF flux core/gas set up. Its not a miller by any means but I've never had much problems doing exhaust or down pipes w/them. Only thing that sucks is the wire feed tends to go hay wire some times, but you get what you pay for I guess.

I'm confused, when i Mig i hold the ground clip or peice im welding on all the time. This is bad, how is this different than leaning on your grounding table?

Well I don't know... Maybe it was the rod that touched my hand while I was on the ground. I was drinking bear at this time, I can't remember well what happended. Anyway, shut off the welder before you take out the ground clip. /problem :P
