OK,I've been getting alot of mail about how to make a collector for the past year or so.So I'm going to show you here the simple way of doing it with a chopsaw.I'm sure most of you guys here have a chopsaw,right?You will have to test cut a few peices to get the right cut though.I would suggest using PVC pipe for this.It's cheaper and you'll probably end up cutting alot of bad peices.Just to let you know,80% of my collectors are cut on a bandsaw(more precise,clean cut and better fitting).I'm not going to show you that setup though.Anyways on with the pics.


Here is the saw I'll be using.Ryobi 14"chopsaw,but you can use any 14" saw.


Here is the first cut.I use 5 inch length peices of pipe,set the clamp at an angle,clamp the pipe down and cut.


Cut #2,turn the pipe so that cut #1 is facing up(when you cut steel pipe make sure you start off slow or else the blade will want to walk)


There now you only have 3 more peices of pipe to cut.


Tack the 4 peices up and weld away.Here are some pics of the finished product.

Oh yeah,I just recieved my new tig torch a few days ago.#9 air cooled torch with gas lens and #4 cup.Its pretty small so I can weld in tight places.

ps - on the top view of your collector, did you toss in a small square piece of flat metal and weld it in.

I have a Miller syncrowave 180sd and maxstar 150.That hmt weld was done with the 180sd,no pulser(I wish I had one,My next machine will have it though.Just keep a steady hand and travel speed and weave it.Or you can just weave little circles.
And yes I dropped a square peice in the center so I don't have to reach all the way into the cone.And thanks for the compliments guys.
