homemade thingy for turbo oil feed
i made this bolt/oil fitting for my turbo when i figured out that the brass fitting i had in there wasnt actually the right size.
just found this bolt in my tool box and started in on it. it used to be 3 inches long. cut it welded it drilled it and tapped it. i drilled 2 different size holes. ones super tiny and the other is like 3/8 or something. anyways heres the pics. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y16...a/DSCN2206.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y16...a/DSCN2204.jpg beats going online, finding the part, PAYING FOR IT, and then WAITING FOR IT, plus i know for a fact that this is what i need. i just dont know if its going to seal yet. it should though. |
Re: homemade thingy for turbo oil feed
There's always JB weld if it doesn't seal. HMT FTW.

Re: homemade thingy for turbo oil feed
-16g turbo
-yeah the camera was on close-up mode but for some reason the flash was making it over saturated so i turned the flash off and then with no light the shutter stays open longer and my hands had to be super steady. BUT i figured out how to get close-ups and not have that problem anymore. ill post those later on. i got many more pics of installing. the bolt broke when i put too much torque on it so i had to reweld it. now its super strong. |
Re: homemade thingy for turbo oil feed
Did you finish repairing your manifold where the oxy-fuel burned some of the stainless up?
|
Re: homemade thingy for turbo oil feed
hahaha . oh yeah that was just a test run. since it didnt work we tig'd the whole thing up.
i later did another test on just a couple of scraps of SS to see if oxy would work on them..... it doesnt. i should have my car up and running in a couple days after over a year of planning and building for boost. i hope it works. |
Re: homemade thingy for turbo oil feed
yeah, i had talked to someone that i know can do it over the last little bit and i know you need to use a backside flux and either a stainless flux tig rod or special frontside flux. weld it in small portions at a time.

More info on stainless flux tig rod. I have never seen/heard of it? |
Re: homemade thingy for turbo oil feed
there are lots of ER flux rods avalible. You just have to make sure the flux does not get under the weld post root-pass. They're used for root-passing pipe when a backpurge is not viable. ASME FTW.
R308LT1-5, R309LT1-5, R316LT1-5 & R347LT1-5 Same basic classifications as SFA-5.3 & 5.9, etc |
Re: homemade thingy for turbo oil feed
Intersting.
So say I am welded schedule 40 pipe, instead of back purging, I could do a root pass with flux cored stainless rod? And then do a weave pass with filler with regular 309 filler rod? |

Re: homemade thingy for turbo oil feed
It's also likely much cheaper to gas-purge the backside with normal rods. Talking almost no argon flow VS paying more money for flux rods - that wont deposit as much material.
