Hell even cheaper. Just jack the frontend up high enough to slide the engine under. Or if your removing the engine, lower the car as low as possible. Unbolt engine mounts, and have a rug or a piece of cardboard to slide the engine out easier on. The car should be low enough that the engine is actually resting on the ground after you lower it. The oem jacks are low enough to jack it back up to use a normal jack and some stands. I used a couple oem jacks, like two big chunks of wood or you can used phonebooks to get it up high enough. Ghetto yes, but it works and can be done with stuff just around the house or hell in your car.

I built a steel A Frame a few years ago for pulling engines. Went to a shipyard and got some old rail cap and rigging off a shrimp boat and used that to build the frame. Works good. It's only like 11' tall though. Needs to be like 14 but it usually works. I've also hung chain files in trees before.
Funny and I wish I had pics: My machinest built a wooden lift. The beam is about 2' tall, 12' long. The 2x2's are on the top and bottom of the OSB on both sides bolted together to form an I beam. The frame that supports is is all 2x6's bolted together. It's also on wheels. It looks funny but he used it to move a 3 ton milling machine!
