Just take a Bosch BPV and run it open. You'll get a huge sound....

It's kinda ricer, but hey...:)

Really? How can you get a vaccum source for that?

The vaccum pulls the piston up, allowing the excess boost to escape.

Re: homemade BOV?

i always thought the extra pressure from closing the throttle plate was what opens it, or is it a combination of the both?

mike saunders 03-19-2006 08:37 PM

Re: homemade BOV?

Vacuum pulls it open....

sailman 03-20-2006 11:41 AM

Re: homemade BOV?

so the vaccum on a wastegate will do the same when you close the throttle plate?

is this is ture everytime i let off the gas all the way the wastgate opens

mike saunders 03-20-2006 05:19 PM

Re: homemade BOV?

Wastegate actuator is set to open at a certain pressure based on signal from the boost pressure solenoid, or if you have a pretty primitive system, it can he run on straight vacuum....

Re: homemade BOV?

wastegate runs off boost..bov runs off manifold vacuum..

that makes more sensei understand now guys thanks, i was always under the impression BOV's opened from teh extra pressure when you close the throttle plate but it all makes sense now

im sure we all thought a bit along those lines when we were noobs, but if that was the case, the bov would be open all the time, there is no extra pressure when the throttle plate closes, it is just going in the opposite direction now.

Re: homemade BOV?

Oh there is a pressure spike when you close the throttle. Have you ever had a responsive boost gauge pre-throttle?
