I haven't used a gasket there. Are you sure the flange is flat?

Re: hmt style gasket how to?
You can use a soda can if you like also. I personally didn't use one on my last set-up and it was good to go.

Re: hmt style gasket how to?
soda can... decent idea.. i used a similarly thick sheet of copper. now i use nothing. weirtech for the win.

Re: hmt style gasket how to?
stainless roof flashing works wonders for flange gaskets
|
Re: hmt style gasket how to?
If you can find a sheet of copper that would be ideal. Soft, malleable metal that doesn't melt till around 1800* F. If not I'd go for the stainless roof flashing. Aluminum melts at 1224*F, pretty low, and can be lower if its alloyed.

plaster a thick layer of grease on that ----....
it burns to carbon and makes a good seal |

Kudos on the grease for a gasket. It works well. Smokes lots when it is in the 'curing' faze.
