header wraps suck

I plan on using some wrap on my exhaust cause it comes pretty close to my a/c compressor and oil drain line. Saw this, and thought maybe I shouldn't............but I haven't heard anything bad about wraps from you guys. I'm still going to use the heat wrap just wanted to put this out there.

I don't think it applies to me but.........

BTW are u guys getting your wraps local? I've seen some on egay. I want to finish the setup this weekend.

never heard of any of that happening, at least it's never happend to me. The only problem i've had with heat wrap is right around the area were my WB bungs into the DP, it was holding so much heat in that the sensor was over heating and throwing codes. So i put a heat sink on the bung and it work somewhat weel but still got a code every once in a while, so i took the wrap off 3" from each side around the WB and now it's cool, I've never had a problem with tthe wrap causing damage to any piping. O i ordered mine from summit and also looking into silicone spray for over the wrap :y :6

Re: header wraps suck

The spray keeps the wrap from rotting out on you, and puts a nice black coating over it so it doesn't look like ----.
Before you install the wrap soak it in water for a few hours as well, this will make it easier to stretch and the end product will be nicer and tighter then no soaked.

Re: header wraps suck

I've always used header wrap on all my headers but if you do alot of driving in wet environments then I'd suggest spraying it with silicon header wrap spray made by DEI who make header wrap. I never used it since I could care less what the header looked like underneath as long as it keep the heat down to which it did great. The keep moisture to get inside the wrap and corroding your header. It's a great solution if you drive your car all year round and don't feel like taking it off or you ---- rusting apart. Overall I wrap all my headers and have it on my Z and keeps the heat down and it needs it especially since the header is directly underneath the intake manifold.

Though I think some boat company sells it dirt cheap for a huge roll but I can't think of the name. I get a catalog from them every month or so. Note to self... wear glove when putting it on cause you'll be itching like a maniac if you don't. lol. Trust me. :P

Re: header wraps suck

just wrap that ---- how long do you think you will keep the setup anyway, it`s not going to last forever.

Re: header wraps suck

Exactly as donald said. I wrap everything cause it's a homemade and like it's really gonna stay on your car for years and years. Get the stuff marine stuff and you can do your entire exhaust system. Just spray it if your gonna drive it year round so you exhaust and whatever else you wrap doesn't just crumble into nothing from corrosion trapped inside.
