I think you should clock your center section a bit and shorten the drain line, you don't want it going uphill like that.

Do you have a BOV somewhere I can't see?

Other than nice, good ---- 8)

Re: First time turbo setup D16z6

That drain was one thing I was actually worried about, I think I may go a diff route on that one....
And as for a bov I have one just waiting to get to my shop so I can tig weld everything together..

Re: First time turbo setup D16z6

that oil drain for sure needs some attention or your gonna have a smoke bomb waiting. just re-clock the center setion so you can get more of a 'down hill' for the return. Once you cut Steves oil return so short, it doesnt really bend anymore, so be ready with some other line. Get a foot or so from Napa or wherever, cause you will continue to ---- with it. My other advice, did you JB weld the return bung in the oil pan? from the outside looks like you just bolted it in there. thats going to cause a leak....put some JB weld around it.

and get a cover on the flywheel. :X

other than that, its going to be a fun little beast. 8)

Re: First time turbo setup D16z6

Yea Im going to work on that drain today. What I was actually thinking about doing was using the stock hard pipe return that comes on the 14b and at the point where it starts to slope down just hack it in half then connect the rubber tubing with clamps of course... Then it should be a pretty good slope straight down.....

On the drain flange I actually welded some nuts on the inside off the oil pan so I Could pull the bolts snug aginst the seal...Will that work I doubt it....Then I will be laying the good old JB down

As for the flywheel guard its sittin on my tool box just gotta clean off some of that good CV grease.....

Re: First time turbo setup D16z6

yeah definately fix the drain, that was my pfirst problem on my first turbo setup, a kinked return line that made tons and tons of smoke

Re: First time turbo setup D16z6

Yea believe me I dont want that....I will try my idea see what happens....

Re: First time turbo setup D16z6

looks good. pretty much identical to my first setup. i predict it will take you 6 months before you wanna build it and get a bigger turbo :P took me two haha

Re: First time turbo setup D16z6

Fix the drain.

Looks like you classic HMT Setup done clean.

We did the same charge pipe deal with my buddies car, he a welder, loves doing it, so he tigged all the charge pipe with ghetto bends and a ---- load of peices. Can hardly tell that there are ghetto bends.

Re: First time turbo setup D16z6

yea its comming along pretty good...This is actually 1 of 2 boosted hatches i have...the other one has 240hp and 200 tq on stock internals at 10 lbs of boost...Im just boosting this one for the hell of it....

And thats the same reason I did the bends like that...I actually have a degree in welding and metal fab so its pretty fun stuff

Re: First time turbo setup D16z6

get a 90 deg fitting for the drain thats how i did mine w/ a 14b..

Re: First time turbo setup D16z6

Sounds great I will see what I can do with it

Re: First time turbo setup D16z6

Get that thing Dynoed, id like to see what kind of numbers you are getting with it. Looks good though, nice work.

primed16 09-02-2006 10:31 PM

Re: First time turbo setup D16z6

Thanks man...the dyno will be the first on the list....I dont know what kinda numbers it will put out??

HMTguy 09-02-2006 10:52 PM

Re: First time turbo setup D16z6

I say 182.6 WHP with the stock WG setting.

primed16 09-02-2006 11:18 PM

Re: First time turbo setup D16z6

I would be very happy with that

HMTguy 09-03-2006 01:27 PM

Re: First time turbo setup D16z6

That's my high estimate. Could only be 160 whp :P

primed16 09-03-2006 03:13 PM

Re: First time turbo setup D16z6

that would work to...using it for a daily so that would be fine

Re: First time turbo setup D16z6

You could probably beat some B16 swaped cars. I know I did! O0

Re: First time turbo setup D16z6

So what do you guys think about going with stock head studs??? Will it work or will it lift the head??

how much boost ?? 8-10psi you should be fine with stock anything over 10 i would go with some arp's. IMO

primed16 09-03-2006 10:38 PM

Re: First time turbo setup D16z6

it will be 8psi...

zex_cool 09-03-2006 10:46 PM

Re: First time turbo setup D16z6

you shold be just fine. i ran my y7 on 8psi w/ a 16g w/o any problems.

but if you have bigger plans for it later. . . . then why not.

primed16 09-04-2006 12:48 AM

Re: First time turbo setup D16z6

Very true....I guess we will see what happens

G2turbo_terror 09-04-2006 03:19 AM

Re: First time turbo setup D16z6

Better keep $$ aside just in case. My headgasket started leaking in 1/2 a day of being boosted. The most it saw was 8psi right before I blew a coupler.

primed16 09-04-2006 11:17 AM

Re: First time turbo setup D16z6

Yea I hear good and bad stories.....But if that happens im going thicker head gasket..arp studs..and that will give me a reason to do the t-belt again so it may work out we will see
