Default First collector attempt

hi guys,

Been working on making a collector. Using the TIG to weld it up. Still pretty new to TIG welding. Had about 1-2 hours of practice so will need a bit more before I complete the collector. Used a bandsaw to cut the pieces up. The pieces are 4 inches long. It not as close a fit as I had hoped but it's good enough for the first try I guess.

Just tacked it up for now. I also ran a little bead to see how my welding was on the pipe. I think I need to clean the pipe a bit more. Does anyone know if I can use nail polish remover or paint thinners to clean the metal up? I don't have any acetone.

Thanks for looking

nice, but you should cut them much longer b/c now you won't be able to weld runners to your collector

Not bad it looks good. But how do you plan on welding the other pipes on?

Hmmm yes.. I can see that being a problem now...I guess what i could do now is break it apart and weld say an inch of straight pipe on to the ends. What do you think?

I'm using an inverter fusion 200hf. It's a british made machine. it cost me £700 ($1390). Very nice machine and very portable. I need to get a foot pedal though.

So I cut some 1.5 inch pieces. What do you guys think? is it too much or could I get away with the extension being half the length? Sorry for the bad pics.

how are you even going to weld those on? I think you need to start over with longer original pieces.

Well I cut the tack welds off and welded the pipes on just now. I'll clean it all up again and tack them all back together now. The next one I do will definately be longer. This one is kind of a practice one as I want to learn how to weld it inside and out. Welding it inside is gonna be a real challenge though. I just don't know how I'm gonna do it yet.

You can use what you have but will have to weld the tubes all together where they meet insted of welding them all independently of each other.
