Finished homemade piping setup.

Got done with the fabrication of the 3"exhaust, 3"intake, and 2.5" IC piping for my setup the other day. Hell I know I ain't a pro welder. I go by the moto, "The bigger the glob, the better the job!" Thanks Austin for your help, I owe you some $. Thanks Steve for the couplers. Just gotta get Jung4g to powdercoat this stuff whenever he's available!

Here's a couple pics. Muffler is Bling Blang Blaow!!

I'm sure some of you will bring forth some DSM hate, I expect it. But I'mjust happy with how it turned out. We fabricated everything our self that we could have!

nice job on doing it yourself, can you get close up pics of the weld?

Re: Finished homemade piping setup.

Ya I'll take a closer pic of my ghetto fabulous welds tomorrow and show them off to you. It's aluminized steel, so it was all done with a MIG.

Thanks for the comments. I'll get some close ups of the welds later. I'll show ya what I think were some of my better ones, and I'll try to get some shots of the real globby ones too!

Badass. Did you do the bends yourself? If so, how?

ju-on 10-11-2005 03:42 PM

Re: Finished homemade piping setup.

We bought the bends, then cut them and welded them as needed. Also I forgot to answer, It is just some cheap Megan Racing 3" inlet muffler that was laying in my buddies garage unused. So I figured it would work. We'll see how good or bad it is. I haven't started it up yet because I have to plug one oil line, plug one coolant line, and fix my leaky turbo drain line. Then we'll start it up and see how it sounds. And ya, I know the welds won't leak. If there was a spot that looked like a potential leak, it got more weld globbed on it!

Lookin' good man. Now get it drivable before winter hits!

No DSM hate here!!! I love the 1st Gen DSMs. I had a talon once....Had the notorious ecu resistor leak. Swaped the ecu and removed the restictor. Ate some 15 sec. hondas easily at half throttle. Also isn't the crankwalk on the 2nd Gen 6 bolt motor!??

I'm in Brooklyn Park, couple minutes from the 694 & 252 intersection. Ya Steve we'll dub this ---- some day. I'm more worried about getting it running so I can enjoy it for maybe 2 weeks until winter hits. Thanks for the comments. Austin gimme a ring when you wake up nig, help me get this thing moving!!

I second both of these statements, i want to hear what that thing sounds like and see it in action!

Re: Finished homemade piping setup.

I think I got the flex from kteller. I was kinda disappointed with it's size. The thing is like 6" long. I should have gone with roadrace. I'm going outside now so I'll take a couple pics of the welds.

I can try to make a lil video with my digicam, but I don't know how to upload that crap to the net. Plus before I make a video, I have to get the thing running. Finally got the slim fan in today and the cooling line plugged. All that's left is to fix my oil drain line leak, and plug the stock oil feed location.

Re: Finished homemade piping setup.

what size is the downpipe? looks like 2.5"

ju-on 10-13-2005 01:17 AM

Re: Finished homemade piping setup.

The O2 housing is 2.5", but from the Downpipe back is 3". Here's a couple snap shots I just took. I went out there and welded the muffler on just now. I know some of you may say that since the muffler is SS, I shouldn't have MIGed it to the aluminized piping. I had just spot welded it and planned on taking it to a pro to get TIGed on, but a couple other guys I talked to said that MIGing it will hold fine, just have to watch out for rust. But I don't care about that as is doesn't see winter, plus we're going to spray paint all the welds to help prevent that. So anyhow, here's some closer pics of my welds. Nothing award winning, but I think I'm getting better.

And she's alive!!! One of the slim fans took a ---- right off the bat, so I gotta get a new one of those. Idle is a hair rough. But other then that, she's alive and noisy as hell! I think I have leaks between the flanges

Re: Finished homemade piping setup.

TC is repp'n real hard.

Looks really good man, I think we'll have to have a meet soon and I think you'll have to give me a rid ;)

Gotta love the 1g dsms though. My first experience in one was my buddy's fully built 1g, big 16g turbo, full 3" and what not. I love 6k rpm clutch drops.

Re: Finished homemade piping setup.

Ya she's movin pretty good! This turbo is a little bigger then a 16g. I'd try to make it to a meet if there was one. But I work a crazy schedule. Now we just gotta get Austin's car turboed!!!

Re: Finished homemade piping setup.

Drove it to work today. Thing runs fine. Noisy from the exhaust, and needs an allignment. But other then that she seems to be holding great at 15psi. Tommorow I think I'll put her up to 20 and see how she pulls!!
