Slow down, brace your hand and i think your heat may be a little too high.Go down i heat range and weld slower.Try welding two pieces together because that is what you will be doing. If you are welding two different thicknesses together weld more on the heavier piece . Best advice is slow down.

the heat settings are a b c and d wire speed goes 1-10. the settings im using are b for heat and 3 for wire speed. if i go any slower it burns wholes so should i turn the heat down one more notch to the coolest setting.

Usually there is a heat index for what your welding. It should give you a good idea of wire speed and heat range for different material and thickness. Mine is on the inside door of the spool feeder access.

Cut the pipe and weld the two pieces back together. Thin wall ---- like that is always a pain, but I like a high heat and low wire speed personally, then I just do a bunch of stacked tacks.

less heat and less travel speed.
you'll more than likely need to weld an inch, flip it 180* weld an inch, etc till its all done. That thin BS is harder to do without good equipment.

Really? When I butt-weld exhaust pipe I usually use a low heat setting, and medium wire speed. That way the extra wire "fills" the gap.

Yeah I tend to burn through with my welder on high but I only have a Hi/Lo no in between and Lo is weak as ----. I do turn it down if I have a gap though, like if the pieces don't butt right up to kind of give the metal more material to weld with.
