Fabricating your own exaust AFTER the down pipe...
It SUCKSSSSSSSS
Especially when you are doing it with the wagon a full 12-16" off the ground......When I upgrade to 3" exhaust, I sure as ---- am paying someone, or paying someone to rent their lift!!!! |
Re: Fabricating your own exaust AFTER the down pipe...
it does suck w/o a lift, all the crawling under the car and trying to tack ---- on...
|
Re: Fabricating your own exaust AFTER the down pipe...
open downpipe FTW
|
Re: Fabricating your own exaust AFTER the down pipe...
without a lift it sucks so much ass. with a lift it's easy and midly enjoyable.
|
Re: Fabricating your own exaust AFTER the down pipe...
just get a nascar jack and put jack stands on top of cinder blocks :P
|
Re: Fabricating your own exaust AFTER the down pipe...
cinder blocks would work if you have a dolly to roll around on.
I use a lift when doing my exhaust, full working garage with an adjacent machine shop ftw :6 |
Re: Fabricating your own exaust AFTER the down pipe...
I make the section over the axle first, then use slip fits on every other pipe. I clamp them in as I go, and when I'm done, pull it out and weld. Then the clamps come off for better ground clearance.
Still a pain, but by far the easiest way to build exhaust on the ground, especially if you have an impact wrench for the clamps. I'll do a pictorial whenever I get the engine back in my S10. |
Re: Fabricating your own exaust AFTER the down pipe...
I kinda enjoy the hot slag falling on your neck area.
|
Re: Fabricating your own exaust AFTER the down pipe...
Get a good creeper & tall jackstands, it's not so bad.
Oh... Learn the old addage, "Measure twice, cut once." bitches. And wear the right clothes/gear lmao. |

Re: Fabricating your own exaust AFTER the down pipe...
Drive way exhausts are teh suck. I'm making small adjustable stands to hold the piping up, I've got two more exhausts this summer to help with.

Re: Fabricating your own exaust AFTER the down pipe...
I don't trust jacks 100%. I try to always use jack stands so the pressure isn't on the jack.

Good. One wrong move and that thing could come down fast. Kinda scary looking at that. I bet someone has done ---- like that.

Re: Fabricating your own exaust AFTER the down pipe...
I use the jackstands, keep the jack under, and throw some blocks/wood under the car to be extra careful.
|
Re: Fabricating your own exaust AFTER the down pipe...
I never used jack stand's, untill i was working under the car. climbed out from under it went in the house to get something to drink. when i came back out the jack had turned over some how and came out from under the car and the car was sitting on the ground and i had both front wheel's off. So yea that would have sucked.

Re: Fabricating your own exaust AFTER the down pipe...
for most things i dont need jackstands. only needed one to flex my worn out stock suspension to drop my oil pan
|
Re: Fabricating your own exaust AFTER the down pipe...
I don't need to jack my car up at all to do exhaust work. I have a 6 foot deep pit in my garage...pull the car up over the pit, walk down the stairs into the concrete hole, and proceed to tack weld the pipes together. ;D
|
Re: Fabricating your own exaust AFTER the down pipe...
Garage pit eh?
I tack weld it with the crap on the car. Pull it off and weld it properly off the car: http://lakebox.dnsalias.com/photos/1...d/med/exh2.jpg |
