Exhaust temp
Hey, I was just wondering how hot does the average temerature get in a manifold on a 4cyl, I am atempting to make a turbo Mani out of carbon fiber but the resin that I have avalible to me is only rated for 800 degrees Celsius. ( like 1400 degrees F) I searched And found that it can get up to about 300 C. But I would like some other opinions

....I'm guessing it would melt into a nice blop of carbon fiber.
|
The carbon fiber itself wouldn't melt, it would just Frey apart. the resin is the issue here
|
Yeah, finding a resin that will handle those kinds of temps would be difficult. Never heard of a carbon fiber exhaust manifold before.
If it's a turbo manifold, you're going to run into higher exhaust temps and pressures as well... Good luck with it. If you do figure it out, post it up! |
Yea, im trying to make a turbo manifold, (log style) and I am going to pressure test it on Monday to c if it has any chance of holding. I'll post up the results when I'm done on Monday

F1 cars still use metal exhaust manifolds... they are the kings of weight reduction, so, Im sure if it was possible, they would be doing it.

Someone below mentioned F1 and he is correct, if this was possible, the guys with 200 million dollar R&D programs would be doing it. |
Lol yea, I was on another forum and they told me the same thing lol.
ohh well I guess Ima just have a carbon fiber header I can sell on eBay..... Somone will buy it hahaha |
ill give you fifty liras and a ball of lint for it right now.
