Downpipe Thickness?

I'm having a local muffler shop my downpipe out of some mandrel bends. Is there a big difference between 18 and 16 gauge material in terms of performance/durability? The rest of the exhaust setup will be in 16 gauge (keteller kit).

Motor is a D16Z6 with a Garrett T25

Durability for a long period of time and bottoming out would say go with 16 gauge. Its not the end of the world if you use 18 and it will definitely hold, but overall for performance (minimal extra heat retention) and strength 16 would be the way to go.

you should also consider what grade of material is being used. 304ss and anything less i'd go with 16g. if you are using 321ss you can use 18g imo.

It'll be in 304. I think I'm bent on 16 gauge. Now I'm just trying to find a good place to buy the pipes. Any suggestions?
