Default does this welder seem ok....

alright so after many people telling me to do so I've decided to try my hand @ welding and doing my own exhaust, custom 3" DP (not sure if a true 3" DP has ever been done on a 15G greddy turbo....I know 2.5" has been done) and I'll also be redoing the charge piping.

I've done very little welding before and that was a few years ago in autoshop and the instructor set everything and said "go" LOL. I did manage to get an A+ for the welding portion of the class, but again that was with the instructor setting everything up

here is the welder I'm thinking of:

it is an ARC welder....will that suffice or do I need a MIG welder? I plan on using only mild steel and don't care how "pretty" the welds look, so long as they serve their purpose

stick welding is very easy but not good in confined space like a manifold. its more expencive in the long run and you need to burn alot of rods to be welding alright with it.
HF wirefeeds suck. Get something else under $500.

used one of those at a friends house. for $500 it was useable. find yourself a cheap jackson shadow with a #10 lens in it and go at it.

well if I'm gonna end up spending over 500 on just a welder I'll just have a shop do it for me....my reasons for wanting a cheap (sub $250)harbor freight welder is to get a piece of crap that can puke on some welds that will adequetly work and I can get better/refresh myself @ welding...seems kind of stupid to me for someone who's done very little welding and probably forgot most of it to go out and spend about 500 on a nice welder

A welder is always useful, so buy that mig and use it when you want. Anyway, I'm not sure you're going to do manifold tomorrow... Try to install a exaust pipe without welder it's a mess. If you think you're only going to weld bracket here and there, just buy the arc fluxcore stickshit welder.

I don't know about charge pipe welding tho...

i bought that same welder over two years ago, it works amazing and the only issue i had was the spindle for the wire was broken when i got it, but four 1/4" washers under the screws fixed it.

old sloppy flange weld, but the pipe welds turned out rock solid

compared to paying someone about 20/weld on 3" pipe those look beautiful LOL

I figured with a cheap welder from harbor freight and a decent chop saw I can make some pretty decent stuff. and pepboys is litterally like right across the street from me so I can get all the 3" mild steel tubing I desire LOL....pie-cuts FTW LOL

For a week until the liner has been poked through the feed becomes inconsistant and you put some SAE rollers on it so it can grip north american wire.
