Check out my crank pulley tool I made

4 Attachment(s)
$30 and $75 for crankpulley tools at auto parts stores? ---- that. I made one for 3 ------- DOLLARS

Materials:

- 1 nut that measures 2" across the flats
- Old shift linkage

So for the bar I used the old shift linkage from the hatch I parted out. I simply bent the fork that goes around the shifter and placed the nut, offset in there, and welded the ---- out of it.

Check it out:

This thing works tits.

Very nice idea.

How do you access the crank pulley bolt with it on though? Is the hole big enough for a socket to get in there?

Yea, it has to be or it would defeat the whole purpose.

I have a professional one but it was only about $20

that pretty good. a whole lot cheaper than my matco crank tool. i pretty much run a tab with them and mac so i constantly grab whatever looks cool or is on sale. it just sucks to always have a $250 a month tool bill

Or you can just bolt the flywheel on, thread in one of the bolts that hold on the pressure plate onto the flywheel, then use one of the bolts that hold the tranny onto the block. Set the closed end of the wrench onto the flywheel bolt and the open on the bolt on the block and presto...it keeps the crank from spinning. Or if it's still in the car. Just toss it in gear and jam a block of wood onto the brake pedal and the seat and it works. Atleast for me it always has. Or you can make one with a shift linkage like he did. HMT at it's finest. 8) Whatever gets the job done is my motto.

Nice, only works on less than 25% of the Honda's I've seen.

HAHAHA

Yeah I had an ingrown nail on both sides of my toe. The podiatrist basically cut the sides of the nail off and killed the root. Now I'm left with an ugly strip of nail up the middle of my toe.

Yup the hole is a perfect size. It fits impact sockets also.

Man we just fought a crank pulley bolt on an f22 and hit it with everything but one of these tools. We had the engine out and hit it with penetrating oil, impact, bolting wrenches to the crank where the flyweel went. We finally broke down and welded bar stock to the pulley, guess we shoulda used our heads and done the nut instead :1

I could never get any crank pulley bolts out with an impact gun. 1/2" Breaker bar, a piece of pipe, 6" extension and a floor jack to support the extension and keep it level. Then someone to step on the brake. Worked for me like 99.9% percent of the time when it's in the car. Outside of the car the block/wrench/flywheel setup always worked. Then just put a pipe into the base of the stand to keep it from tipping over. But whatever works is what works for me.

when the motor is completely out of the car, i like the turn it upside down with the head off and use two flywheel bolts and a big prybar to foul the crank then your favorite bfh on a socket and ratchet

It's a pretty nasty procedure isn't it? I watched him do the whole thing and was like "wow I can't imagine the pain I would feel without the industrial dose of novocain."
