charge piping: this shit is starting to get to be more and more a pita

don't get me wrong, i love fabbing ----, but when there are a million things i would have personally done differently than it starts to get tired real quick. sure, i enjoy coming up with a solution for a challenging project, but when other stuff isn't made to fit that great it is a pain to deal with. i'd almost rather do someone's complete setup, rather than add the missing pieces to the puzzle in the end and try to make things work.

here is the first issues... i made the dump tube for this setup already and mis-judged the front engine mount slightly... no big deal to fix... but this neukin manifold puts the turbo so far away from the block it is ------- retarded. there is no way in hell the downpipe will clear even a half rad WITH a pusher fan in this DA. apparently this manifold and downpipe was mocked up in a crx.... no ------- way a rad was in there at the time. don't get me wrong though, the manifold is a beautiful piece, it just doesn't consider spacing of things. mike is also concerned about how close the wg is to the manifold, but i don't think it will be an issue myself.

had to make some rad supports and move it... this made my idea to back door both sides of the intercooler a no-go.

back door on driver's side:

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...h/DSC08280.jpg

just needs an elbow coupler... but look how close the turbo is to the block. you could bake a loaf of bread in there!

intercooler and upper pipe:

i made the upper pipe so there will be no visible coupler. mike will have to post up some pics when everthing is installed. get that rebel going and stop talking to that french fry on the phone!

that sucks. i wasnt sure how much of the system you were making. as best i can tell with the pics that would be better. since you have seen it in person do you think so?

What does the passenger side look like for the intercooler?

The passenger side of the intercooler was not modified. It's just your usual setup you see on many Hondas.

Thanks again Aaron for all your help. Sorry to take up your whole day. I'll get some more pics up this weekend when I do a final mock up of everything before I yank the motor out. But don't worry, I'll be back again. I have a few more things I need you to do :y

i have to say you have some of the best fab sklls on here and your abviously doing well for yourself which is a good thing so all i have to say is keep it up.

thanks. as i have mentioned in other threads, the car stuff is filler work for me when the industrial stuff is slow. business seems to go up and down with the industrial stuff so it is nice to have some gap filler work. ;) i consider myself reasonable at this stuff, i've seen far better work from other people who are extremely good welders in here and on other forums. i wouldn't be half as good if i didn't frequent these forums to learn new stuff and pick up new ideas! ;D i really enjoy doing this stuff, even though some times it is a pain to do, i like making something work the way it should or coming up with a creative solution to the problem. i just don't think i could make as good money doing it all the time since it is so labour intensive and the market is soaked with people making stuff for almost as cheap as cost of materials and a couple hours of work.... this keeps profit margins down for everyone. :-\ atleast the consumer has a choice of who they want to go to. as long as i keep doing this sorta thing i will always stand behind my work and if something doesn't fit or cracks, i will fix it at my own expense.

it would ve been easier just to cut off that endtank and make a new one with a rear entry inlet. looks like you made a headache out of that.

i personally would want a break in the pipes so that i could use a few couplers to compensate for engine movement

Re: charge piping: this shit is starting to get to be more and more a pita

I like fabbing up my own stuff myself too, but for the charge piping I tried a prebent kit from godspeed, got the intercooler/chargepiping for $300, it came with nice silicone couplers, and tbolt clamps, and man did it fit nice! I had to make 1 cut, it looks nice too.

I'm actually not going for all custom. That's just the way everything sadly happened with this car. There isn't too much aftermarket support for the DA Integra, and it also has a pretty tight engine compartment. Space is limited. I had to place the rad like that or the downpipe would have hit, or got close enough that it would have probably melted the fan.

the downpipe had to be lengthened about an inch on the vertical section as it was originally mocked up by the person who made it on a b16 block and not a b18 which has a taller deck height. also, i had to make an adjustment to the dump tube so that it wasn't going to hit the front engine mount... that was my fault, so no charge. he just brought down the block to get rid of the oil squirters as he is running an ls crank in a b18c block. if i'd had my camera at the time i would have done a writeup on it. i ended up drilling out the M8x.75 threaded holes (couldn't source any bolt that size on short notice) and re-tapped them for 1/8" NPT fittings that will seal just as well. they are thread lock tightened in nice and toight... just how mike likes his french women. >:D unfortunately the boys are off to montreal for the long weekend and won't be getting any wrench time until tuesday. they plan to have this thing racing at the next cscs event in 2 weeks. kinda tight timeframe i think since the block is still bare! :P

Actually I got the the entire engine assembled that same night. Also the event is this weekend and is not looking good for me. I still have WAY to many things to do before than. The two things worrying me the most are I don't think I'll have time to get a dyno tune in, so I'd only be racing on a street tune. Secondly, getting the car there is the other problem. I have access to a trailer but no truck. I had decided on driving the car up there but I without an exhaust I doubt I'm going to take the chance. If by some miracle I get a tune in and an exhaust fabbed up, I'll be there.

Thanks again Aaron for helping me out ONCE AGAIN on such short notice. I keep running into the smallest time consuming problems with this car that keep holding me up. Luckily though Weirtech has been there to help me resolve my damn problems quickly. Aaron is the man! If you need any type of fabbing work done up, he's the man to go see! :y

hey mike, how about a truck ride to and from the race? i just got the go ahead from the wife to go to the race for saturday. it is just saturday right? also, if you are having trouble getting an exhaust made, let me know and i can probably hook you up as this week looks slow in the shop. give me a shout. i'd really like to see your car up and running as you have put a lot of effort into it yourself.

Hey Aaron, I really appreciate your offer. I can't thank you enough but it's still not going to happen. I just spoke with Zeeman, and he's booked up for the next two days. No tune, no race :(
