Hi guys!
I've been cruising the forums here for weeks and love it!

I see tech questions here so I'll throw this out.

I'm a chronic engine nut with a fetish for antique engines / tractors and modern adaptations of tech. I have a 1940's 2 Cylinder John Deere that I use on a regular basis that could use a little power boost. (pun intended)

I got a (presumably Chinese made) JDM T3/T4 T04 Turbocharger for my birthday and decided to experiment with it on the old tractor. The 175 cubic inch (2.9 litre) engine does not move a lot of exhaust gas volume because it is designed to run at 1150 RPM. I've been running it at 1400 RPM and even at that the CFM is around 70 assuming 100% VE, which is a bit optimistic.

At full load I'm getting about 1 to 1.5 PSI of boost. Not much compared to the hot rod Honda this turbo is intended for.....BUT it's a start.

My question:

Where would you guys hunt for a low cost T3 turbine housing with a lower A/R that I could swap the guts of my turbo into. I'm thinking that since this engine has no need for high RPM breathing that a fairly small A/R housing would get me the turbine speed at the low volumes of exhaust gasses that I have to work with, while keeping the same compressor housing.

Ultimately I'm looking for under 10 PSI of boost. I think the calculations I did call for a 1.5 pressure ratio, not a lot to ask and that ended up around 5-7 PSI of boost.

The stock compression ratio is around 4:1....that is correct - four to one. (Engine was designed to burn kerosene)

Gimme your thoughts, ideas, etc.

It's too big a turbo for 175 cubic inches at 1150 rpm. Maybe it's good as a primary in a staged set up....maybe.

I would shelve it and find a new (read smaller) charger.

Something tiny, like off a Kubota 3 cylinder diesel
