changed out my cat with a high flow

Pipe ;D
Your cat is a restriction on your exhaust system

solution: put in a high flow cat...but wait your broke like me...what do you do?

weld your own

materials:
2.5 inch pipe about 2 feet
header paint of your choice

tools:
welder tig/mig/arc/torch(i have a mig)
14mm wrenches and socket maybe even that tool that gets stripped nuts/bolts out
an angle grinder with a cut off wheel x2

1. jack the car up and secure it in place.
2. remove the cat from the car.
3. lay the cat next to the pipe to get the approximate length the pipe should be
ex:
Attachment 22359

4.now that you cut the pipe to what you need. cut the flanges off the cat.
5.bolt the flanges back on the cars exhaust system.
6.try to fit the pipe in place if need be cut it down a little.
7. now here comes the welding. tac it in place in several places.
8. remove it from the car and weld all around to keep it secure and leak free.
ex:
Attachment 22360
9. when your satisfied paint it if you wish (all i had was gold paint)
ex:
Attachment 22361

10. put it back on the car and tighten it using new bolts.
11. turn the car on to make sure there are no leaks.
ex:
Attachment 22362
12. lower car and go for a test run.

my car has a nice hollow tone to it like a g35 or murano with a borla exhaust. no raspyness and if need be i can replace the cat.

my car spec:
1994 toyota camry v6se 1mzfe 6coilpacks SRI two cheapy mufflers that are about 24inches each.

edit:
as of the moment my check engine light is on but it's for other reasons but yeah it will throw another code

Re: changed out my cat with a high flow

Now sell the stock one on ebay to pay for the project and put a 12sack in the fridge.

Re: changed out my cat with a high flow

think he can still sell it if he cut the flanges off it?

BigBird 11-27-2007 05:14 PM

Re: changed out my cat with a high flow

That's the way ebay wants them. They are not for reuse but for scrap metal.

You do something good like make your own "test-pipe" and then you ruin it with some statement like this.

----, I have 3 old converters I was about to toss out. They're going for $50-150+!!

Damn, sell your cat, buy a turbo. How enviroment-friendly is that? :P

Re: changed out my cat with a high flow

i used to punch the straight pipe through the cat and weld on the flanges. This way if one of the Jersey side-of-the-road inspection stations decided to pull you in, it still looks like you have a cat under there and you avoid an expensive fine.

just take your original car off and cut a hole in the top, remove insides, weld top back on. home made resonator.

Fail. And g35/350z's sound like ----. They are toneless drones. Crack the throttle and they go "murrrrrr" weaksauce.

Re: changed out my cat with a high flow

I'm up for just the hatching out the honeycombs. That way you still have the "look" of a cat. If not take off the heat shields and tack weld the two pieces over the pipe.

So the ------- cops and inspections people don't rape your ass for having a ------ gold test pipe... unless of course the guy is from Ohio or Florida (or some other states that don't inspect for ----).

Running a test pipe on the street is a hefty fine in places where they check that ----. In VA if you're east of the Shenandoah Valley they have emissions and they will impound your ---- if they catch you running a test pipe. Painting it gold is saying "Hey look at my clown ass!" West of the mountains, where I am, they don't give a ----. But I still run a gutted 3" cat.

edit: Post vids for redemption. It's the only way. Porn can't save you... well maybe it can.
