Can you smell what JDM's cook'n!?
I did some 3" exhaust fab work this week end. I baked the pipes to get that gold look on stainless and purple on mild steel and that's what exactly I got. And this was all done on good ol fluxcore.

Pretty cool. Nice MR2, however I liked the 2nd gen styling better. Still a badass car though.

Re: Can you smell what JDM's cook'n!?
nice flux welds, how did you keep the spatter down??? i can lay a descent bead w/ flux, but always get a ton of spatter, whats the trick, or did you brush it off before baking???

Re: Can you smell what JDM's cook'n!?
Foil the surrounding metal and I also brushed the welds before baking

Re: Can you smell what JDM's cook'n!?
awesome, i have heard of using aluminum foil wrapped tight and thick, but dont usually have it around when im welding. i have used grease, just a thin layer about a half inch away from the welds to keep them from sticking, but cleaning it up sucks. well, looks good.

Re: Can you smell what JDM's cook'n!?
lincoln's anti-splatter spray. gives off mad smoke but works pretty good and gives it that cool color. I heard WD40 does the same thing. Nice setup though. I would of left it since being so short and close to the engine it would of turned it that color later on and you can't even see any of it anyways in that MRS.

Re: Can you smell what JDM's cook'n!?
looks awesome. I like the undercar mounting of the intercooler rather than on top close to the vents. During the pinks install at chris', he had a customers mrs there that had a top mount near those grilles. It didnt look like the intercooler would get any airflow unless there was a scoop behind it. Plus, you know its gonna get heat soaked when sitting still. Nice work! More details/pics on the setup please

Re: Can you smell what JDM's cook'n!?
I didn't know you can weld stainless with a flux-core welder? what wire did you use?
|
Re: Can you smell what JDM's cook'n!?
I used a regular fluxcore wire. Theoretically, you can't but I also welded reinforcements on the POS ssautochrome header with fluxcore and its holding up fine.

Re: Can you smell what JDM's cook'n!?
you can, if its thin it will burn through quickly though. personal experience.

Re: Can you smell what JDM's cook'n!?
I'm using a Lincoln HD3200 weldpack set at A and wirespeed of 2. It lays a nice bead on thin stainless as long as there's no gap.
