Buzzbox to TIG conversions

Re: Buzzbox to TIG conversions
I have been working on building a TIG setup for myself, I found alot of information here:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Welding_Projects/ (They also show how to build a plasma cutter) Here is some summary information: You need a DC CC (constant current) power source. Either a AC buzzbox with 4 diodes and an inductor works, or a big alternator hooked up to a motor works too. http://classicbroncos.com/homemade-welder.shtml Pick up a WP9 (or similar) with accessory kit from a place like http://www.weldingdepot.com/ , and then buy/rent a tank and regulators. I will probably want to build an arc-starter, because I hear scratch starting TIG sucks. Some people have built some awesome setups, ( http://thompdale.home.comcast.net/tig.htm ), but I plan on starting with the simple arc started listed on the yahoo welding group. I plan on replacing the high voltage neon sign transformer, with a car's igition coil because I have one on hand. It should work the same. |

Then, Zbum asked if he could just host it on his site...and he did make it a little prettier, but with my original content, links and such. |
Re: Buzzbox to TIG conversions
Alright, my welder theory sucks, but I'm seeing a problem with welding aluminum on pure DC+ due to ion flow - doesn't that just heat the torch up to the point it wants to melt down? Even if it's only capable of thin gauge sheet.
