barrel throttle?

I've been thinking of building one, anyone have any tips or suggestions regarding them?

By building I mean designing and having someone else machine. I can only dream of the day when I will have the type of heavy machinery req'd to do this in my shop.

i'm planning on building one too. it won't be easy and i'm not sure how much of an advantage it would be. the idle would be very difficult to control.

Cute flow chart... it didn't flow as much as a standard blade at the same size through 70% of the range. They also don't thow anything over 85 degrees where they all flatten out and the barrel takes a minimal lead and the only spot anyone interested would care about.

Idle wouldn't be hard. Just make it/them closed all the way and put an air bleed in there. If your doing ITBs sync them and you're done. I'd like to see what a single 65mm barrel flows like at 450cfm (how many inches of vacuum it takes to get there, since I know I'm about 450cfm) compared to a butterfly.

What about slide valves? Same deal, no butterfly in the way. Probably a little more progressive?

I'll have to check out those flow charts when I get off work, but I'm guessing that the linkage could be offset (ex: oval pully) to cause a more linear pedal vs. flow effect.

Slide valves sound complicated.

My plan was a simple block with the flowing bore about 2mm smaller than the barrel, then use some type of normally available seal to seal the barrel to the throttle block. Also would probably use a linear potentiometer reading off the throttle cable, so that it would read linear to flow instead of angle. Idle control would be via bleed valve.

If you wanted to do it ghetto you could come up with something using a plumbing ball valve and JB weld. :6

Re: barrel throttle?

are you thinking about some type of TB that instead of a butterfly valve it has a slide like a mikuni carborateur? if so that would be awesome, make one up and show us.... whats you'e idea to mount the TPS though??? maybe still use a round thing for teh throttle cable and make the round thing pull teh slide up like the new edelbrock performance ATV carbs
