Bandsaw Blade for Stainless
 

I just bought a new horizontal bandsaw.http://www.grizzley.com/products/4-x...-Bandsaw/G0622 The blade that came with it works ok for steel, but I tried to cut a piece of Stainless and ripped a bunch of teeth out of the blade. I am running it at the slowest setting but I am guessing it is because the blade was to course. I am looking at ordering a new blade and I was wondering if I should go with the 24tpi?

mine are a variable pitch 14-18tpi. only get BI-METAL blades. also, some coolant might help as well.

Sorry for the newb question. Do you just pump the coolant on the blade?

I use a 10-14 or 14-18 variable tooth, variable rake Bi metal.

starrett 10-14tooth from mcmaster carr works good, faster cutting for lighter thicknesses

what size is the blade? vermont american blades DO IN FACT cut stainless sch10 1.5" perfectly fine. they are not raked though

64 1/2 x 1/2 I think part of the problem when I cut the stainless was it was going to slow. I know I dont want to run it to fast and harden it, but I had it on its slowest speed I think it was just to slow. Seems like the next speed up cuts great. Probably better once the blade has all of its teeth :)

did you adjust your guides and tension right?

I think so. It seems to be running really straigt, no wander or slipping.

I have almost the same saw. The stock blade works well for stainless if you have the speed set to the slowest. Otherwise you rip teeth off of the blade.

I also made a small coolant system for mine. Welded up a small aluminum tray to sit under the blade between the legs. It drains into a washer fluid tank from a Geo Metro. The washer fluid pump moves the coolant up a tube to a sprinkler dribbler positioned above the blade. Works quite well to speed up the cut and leave a cleaner edge. You can tell by the sound of the blade it's much happier.
